General Manager About WOW Moving & Storage WOW Moving & Storage is an established, full-service moving and storage company serving residential and commercial customers throughout New Jersey, New York, and beyond. With a history dating back to 1984, WOW has built its reputation around personalized service, attention to detail, professionalism, and dependable execution. As an agent for Allied, WOW combines the resources and capabilities of a national carrier with the responsiveness and personal service of a locally operated moving company. The company provides local and long-distance moving, residential and commercial relocation, packing, storage, and related services. WOW is seeking an experienced Assistant General Manager to help lead the day-to-day operational side of the business. This is an operations-focused leadership position and does not include responsibility for sales or business development. Position Overview The Assistant General Manager will work closely with the General Manager to oversee the daily operations of WOW Moving & Storage, with particular responsibility for drivers, moving crews, dispatch, scheduling, operational compliance, safety, and the successful execution of customer moves. This person will help ensure that the right people, equipment, vehicles, and resources are in the right place at the right time and that each move is completed safely, efficiently, professionally, and in accordance with company standards and applicable regulations. The Assistant General Manager will be highly visible within the operation and will develop strong working relationships with drivers, movers, dispatch personnel, warehouse and operations staff, and company leadership. The successful candidate will be comfortable solving problems in real time, holding people accountable, communicating clearly, and making sound operational decisions in a fast-moving environment. This position is ideal for an experienced moving, transportation, logistics, or operations professional who understands that excellent customer service begins with excellent execution behind the scenes. Key ResponsibilitiesOperations Management- Assist the General Manager with the overall day-to-day operation of the company.
- Help oversee daily moving operations to ensure jobs are properly staffed, scheduled, dispatched, equipped, and completed.
- Coordinate drivers, moving crews, vehicles, equipment, and operational resources based on daily and weekly requirements.
- Review upcoming jobs and proactively identify staffing, scheduling, equipment, routing, or logistical concerns.
- Help maintain an organized and efficient operation during both normal business periods and peak moving seasons.
- Monitor the progress of jobs throughout the day and respond quickly when schedules, customer circumstances, staffing, traffic, equipment, or other conditions change.
- Troubleshoot operational problems and make timely decisions to keep jobs moving.
- Work closely with the General Manager to continually improve operational efficiency, consistency, accountability, and service quality. Dispatch & Scheduling
- Provide leadership and oversight for the dispatch function.
- Coordinate daily driver and crew assignments based on job requirements, availability, experience, equipment needs, and applicable regulations.
- Ensure drivers and crews receive accurate information regarding schedules, locations, job requirements, equipment, paperwork, and customer expectations.
- Maintain regular communication with drivers and crews throughout the workday.
- Monitor job status, delays, schedule changes, and other issues that could affect operations.
- Adjust schedules and resources when unexpected circumstances arise.
- Help ensure efficient utilization of drivers, crews, trucks, equipment, and company resources. Driver & Crew Management
- Build strong, professional relationships with drivers, movers, crew leaders, dispatch personnel, and other operational employees.
- Help supervise, coach, develop, and hold operational employees accountable for performance.
- Reinforce expectations regarding attendance, punctuality, appearance, professionalism, safety, customer service, equipment care, and company procedures.
- Address operational and personnel issues promptly and professionally.
- Participate in onboarding and operational training for new drivers and moving personnel.
- Help evaluate driver and crew performance and identify opportunities for additional training or development.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, professionalism, safety, and respect.
- Help ensure crews consistently represent WOW Moving & Storage professionally in customers' homes, businesses, and communities. Safety, Regulatory & DOT Compliance
- Help oversee compliance with applicable federal, state, DOT, FMCSA, transportation, safety, and moving-industry regulations.
- Maintain a working knowledge of regulations affecting interstate and intrastate moving operations.
- Help ensure drivers maintain required licenses, qualifications, documentation, medical certifications, and other applicable credentials.
- Monitor compliance with Hours of Service and other driver requirements where applicable.
- Help oversee driver qualification files, vehicle documentation, inspection requirements, maintenance records, accident documentation, and other required operational records.
- Reinforce company safety policies and safe driving expectations.
- Help ensure required vehicle inspections, maintenance, and repairs are completed and documented appropriately.
- Participate in the review and follow-up of accidents, incidents, safety concerns, claims-related operational issues, or regulatory matters.
- Identify potential compliance concerns before they become larger operational or regulatory problems.
- Maintain a strong safety-first mindset throughout the operation. Fleet & Equipment Coordination
- Help oversee the daily readiness and availability of company trucks, vans, trailers, moving equipment, and operational supplies.
- Coordinate vehicle maintenance and repairs to minimize downtime and operational disruption.
- Ensure vehicles and equipment are properly maintained, inspected, clean, safe, and ready for service.
- Work with drivers and crew leaders to identify vehicle or equipment concerns quickly.
- Maintain visibility into fleet availability when planning daily and upcoming schedules.
- Help protect company assets by reinforcing proper use and care of vehicles, equipment, tools, and facilities. MoversSuite & Operational Systems
- Utilize MoversSuite as a central operational tool for scheduling, dispatch, job management, documentation, communication, and related operational functions.
- Maintain accurate and timely information within the company's operating systems.
- Help ensure operational personnel consistently follow established processes for entering, updating, and maintaining information.
- Use operational data to identify scheduling issues, resource needs, recurring problems, and opportunities for greater efficiency.
- Support the General Manager in improving processes and workflows within MoversSuite and other company systems.
- Previous operations leadership, transportation management, dispatch, logistics, moving industry, or comparable experience.
- Experience working directly with drivers, field personnel, crews, or transportation employees.
- Strong understanding of dispatching, scheduling, routing, staffing, and day-to-day operational coordination.
- Working knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, transportation safety, driver compliance, and other applicable regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple jobs, employees, vehicles, schedules, and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Ability to communicate effectively with drivers, moving crews, office personnel, management, customers, and outside partners.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable using technology and operational management software.
- Ability to establish expectations, address performance concerns, and hold employees accountable professionally.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work the schedule necessary to support a moving and transportation operation, including early mornings and occasional extended hours during peak periods. Preferred
- Previous management or supervisory experience within the moving and storage industry.
- Experience with MoversSuite moving and storage management software.
- Experience working within an Allied or other major van line environment.
- Experience managing both local and interstate moving operations.
- Strong understanding of moving-industry documentation, driver requirements, safety practices, and regulatory compliance.
- Fleet management or commercial vehicle operations experience.
- Experience supervising dispatch personnel, drivers, movers, or crew leaders.
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
