Job Description
Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania and North Central West Virginia is a nonprofit organization that funds job training, education, and other community programs by selling donated clothing and household items in Goodwill stores and online. We offer life-changing work on a mission-minded team. We are 1,000 working as one, and each of us is essential to helping our community thrive. For three years running, Goodwill has been named to Forbes' list of America's "Most Inspiring Companies". We offer a wide range of career opportunities from entry-level to management in retail, human services, and administrative fields. Learn more about working at Goodwill. You can help. We can show you how. The General Manager is a highly hands-on role responsible for leading and physically overseeing the day-to-day operations of an assigned site inclusive of Outlet operations, Distribution/Warehouse flow, and Salvage execution. This position owns the operational "heartbeat" of the building—daily staffing and coverage, safety and compliance, workflow planning, equipment readiness, customer experience, inventory discipline, throughput, and performance execution through their leadership team. This role is frequently on the floor and in operational areas, working shoulder-to-shoulder with front-line teams to remove barriers, make real-time decisions, and ensure the facility is safe, organized, productive, and customer-ready. Partnering closely with applicable cross-functional partners, the General Manager ensures the site delivers consistent shopper experience and supports safe, efficient, and sustainable recovery operations aligned to Goodwill's Operational Excellence and our People-First Culture. Duties will also include but are not limited to: Lead daily shift execution across Outlet, Salvage execution, and Distribution/Warehouse functions to meet safety, service, throughput, and quality expectations. Partner with AGM and supervisors to ensure a smooth transition from "plan" to "execution" on every shift. Use data and observation (sales trends, peak flow, incident patterns, customer feedback) to adjust staffing and operational tactics as needed to drive site performance Maintain strong on-site presence—coach in the moment, resolve issues in real time, and model pace, quality, and ownership expectations. Lead distribution execution through the Distribution Supervisors, including receiving, staging, storage, replenishment support, and outbound readiness. Own day-to-day salvage execution at the site (sorting, baling, quality control, staging, and load prep) to ensure product is ready to spec and on time. Provide clear, timely communication to stakeholders (Transportation, Facilities, People Services, Finance, Retail/Field) on constraints, performance, staffing, and readiness. Lead daily/weekly operating rhythms (huddles, safety moments, KPI reviews, shift handoffs) and drive accountability to results.
