Job Description
The Special Projects Assistant supports the Chief of Staff and senior leadership of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) by coordinating and executing priority projects, assisting with internal and external communications, and managing logistics for events and community engagement initiatives. This role enhances the Sheriff's Office's operational efficiency, public-facing presence, and interagency coordination. The Special Projects Assistant is a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who can manage multiple tasks, work under deadlines, and maintain discretion when handling sensitive information. Availability on evenings and some weekends is required for this position. Assist the Chief of Staff with planning, organizing, and executing special projects and departmental initiatives. Track project timelines, deliverables, and updates; prepare status summaries for leadership. Conduct research and develop briefing materials weekly to support decision-making and the Sheriff's daily activities. Prepare memos, presentations, and documentation for internal and external audiences. Draft and edit internal communications, newsletters, program summaries, press releases, and talking points for the Sheriff, Chief of Staff, and command staff as needed. Assist in creating public-facing communication materials such as announcements, and social media content, in coordination with leadership. Maintain message consistency, professionalism, and accuracy across all communications. Support planning and logistics for Sheriff's Office events, such as outreach programs, community safety initiatives, public ceremonies, and trainings. Coordinate invitations, schedules, materials, décor, and onsite execution. Serve as a liaison with community organizations, partner agencies, and County departments to support event and program success. Maintain organized project files, calendar details, and event information. Assist with grant-related tasks, including information gathering, documentation, and reporting. Support policy and procedure development, tracking, and document management. Provide general administrative support to the Chief of Staff and leadership team for the Sheriff. Associate's degree in public administration, political science, criminal justice, communications, business, or related field, OR equivalent experience. 1 year of experience in administration, communications, government, project coordination, or event planning. Superior organizational skills and verbal communication. Strong ability to balance multiple priorities and calm. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn new software and project tools. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion. Professional demeanor and sound judgment. Availability on evenings and some weekends is required for this position.
