Job Description

General Manager Home Instead Lead. Grow. Inspire. Make a Difference. Home Instead is seeking a driven, highly organized, and exceptional General Manager to lead our office and drive the continued growth and success of our business. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, knows how to lead people, holds teams accountable, and is passionate about delivering outstanding service to clients and their families. The General Manager will have overall responsibility for ensuring our departments are working together effectively, our business is growing, our employees are supported and held accountable, and our clients consistently receive the highest quality of care. This is not a traditional 8:30-5:00 position. We are looking for a leader who understands that a growing home-care business requires flexibility, responsiveness, and a willingness to step up when the team, our clients, or our caregivers need support. What You'll Be Responsible ForDrive Business Growth Develop and execute strategies to grow the business and increase client volume. Establish clear goals and KPIs and ensure the team consistently meets or exceeds them. Monitor business performance, identify opportunities and challenges, and take action quickly. Work closely with sales and client care to strengthen client relationships and increase referrals. Identify areas for improvement and continuously look for ways to make the business more efficient and successful. Be willing and able to pivot priorities throughout the day as business needs change. Take ownership of results and actively look for opportunities to grow the business. Lead and Hold Departments Accountable The General Manager will oversee and coordinate the performance of our key departments, including: Recruitment & Retention Scheduling Client Care Sales You will establish expectations, monitor results, coach department leaders and team members, address performance issues, and ensure everyone understands how their work contributes to the overall success of the company. You will be expected to lead from the front , not simply manage from a distance. Recruit, Retain & Develop Great People Our caregivers and employees are the heart of our business. The General Manager will be accountable for: Meeting caregiver and employee recruitment goals. Improving caregiver and employee retention. Ensuring open positions are filled quickly and effectively. Creating a culture where employees feel valued, supported, and accountable. Coaching and developing team members. Recognizing strong performance and addressing performance concerns promptly. Building a team that understands and lives our mission and values. Holding leaders accountable for their recruitment and retention KPIs. Protect Quality of Care Ensure clients receive exceptional, reliable, and compassionate care. Monitor client satisfaction and promptly address concerns. Ensure employee and client concerns are handled professionally and effectively. Partner with the Client Care and Scheduling teams to resolve issues before they become larger problems. Maintain a culture where quality care is never compromised for growth. Ensure the entire team understands that quality, safety, and client satisfaction are non-negotiable. Ensure Compliance The General Manager will be responsible for helping ensure the office operates in accordance with: Virginia Department of Health requirements and regulations Home Instead corporate/franchise standards Company policies and procedures Applicable employment and operational requirements Internal quality and performance standards You must be detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to maintaining a culture of compliance. We are looking for someone who identifies potential issues before they become problems. Be a Leader When Things Get Difficult Home care can be unpredictable. Clients have emergencies. Caregivers call out. Employees have concerns. Schedules change. Families need answers. We need a leader who can remain calm, professional, and solution-oriented under pressure. The General Manager will participate in after-hours/on-call leadership support and must be available when needed to support the scheduling team, respond to client inquiries, and assist with significant client or employee concerns. We are looking for someone who understands that leadership sometimes means answering the phone when it isn't convenient, stepping into a problem personally, and making sure the team knows they are supported. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is: A strong, confident leader who can inspire people while holding them accountable. Highly driven and motivated by measurable results. Entrepreneurial and comfortable taking ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do. Extremely organized and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Calm and composed during stressful or unexpected situations. An excellent communicator who can effectively communicate with clients, families, caregivers, and employees. Comfortable having difficult conversations and addressing performance issues. Adaptable and able to change direction quickly as business needs change. Customer-service focused and committed to providing an exceptional client experience. Comfortable working outside of traditional business hours when the needs of the business require it. Able to balance business growth with quality care, employee satisfaction, and compliance . Someone who takes ownership and follows through. Someone who is energized by challenges rather than overwhelmed by them. Required Qualifications Demonstrated leadership and management experience. Strong track record of professional success and stability. Proven ability to manage people, performance, and business operations. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively prioritize competing demands. Ability to work flexible hours and participate in after-hours/on-call leadership support. Active, valid driver's license. Successful completion of a comprehensive background check . Successful completion of a drug screening , consistent with company policy and applicable law. Ability to meet all applicable Home Instead franchise and Virginia regulatory requirements.
