The Tourism Development Coordinator position will provide support to the Tourism Development Division Director in determining strategy, planning, and implementation processes for statewide tourism development programs, listed above. The Tourism Development Coordinator position exists to support the continued growth and increasing complexity of the department's grant programs, including a rising number of funded projects and overall investment levels, which require dedicated oversight to effectively manage workflow, compliance, and program delivery. In addition, the role ensures consistency, accountability, and quality across the full grant life cycle by providing centralized coordination, strengthening communication with partners, and maintaining clear processes and documentation. Together these functions are critical to sustaining program operations and ensuring that grant investments translate to high-quality outcomes that advance tourism development statewide. How does it get done? The Tourism Development Coordinator is responsible for the administration, coordination, and continuous improvement of the New Mexico Tourism Department's grant programs, which primarily include the Tourism Event Growth & Sustainability (TEGS) and Destination Forward grant programs. This position manages a high-volume portfolio of grants from application through close-out, ensuring compliance with program guidelines, state requirements, and funding regulations, while maintaining accurate, organized, and audit-ready documentation. The role supports the planning and implementation of annual grant cycles, including application development, review processes, and award management, and works closely with the internal team to align calendars, communications, and deliverables. This position services as a primary liaison for grant applicants and recipients by providing clear guidance, technical assistance, and ongoing support throughout the grant cycle. The Tourism Development Coordinator's administrative tasks include but are not limited to managing a high-volume of electronic communication, preparation of reports and updates for leadership, and organization of program outcomes to share with communications staff. Additionally, the role is responsible for maintaining and improving internal policies, procedures, and program documentation, identifying opportunities to enhance partner experience with the programs, and various methods of outreach to communities statewide on best practices for tourism events and tourism-related infrastructure developments. Experience in project management and ensuring deliverables of grants are met within budget and scheduled timelines. Experience in communication to a large network of external partners. Experience in documenting partner/client interactions in a CRM. Experience with coordinating economic and community development projects. Experience identifying and applying for grants or other funding opportunities. Minimum Qualification Associate's Degree and two (2) years of experience program administration or project management in areas related to the purpose of the position. Any combination of education and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
