Job Description

Starting Wage Range:
$18.86/hr. - $24.07/hr.
Job Summary:
Assists with the Tribal Tobacco Prevention and Education (TPEP) grant; an inter-departmental tobacco prevention project working with the Tribe's Social Services, Education, and Health program staff. Assists with conducting needs assessment and the preparation of the Community TPEP Plan. Provides administrative support to Youth Empowerment and Prevention within Social Services. Assists in organizing youth activities for eligible youth, maintaining data base systems and files, and gathering information for grant reporting. Provides outreach to the community.
Essential Functions:
Participates in monthly interdepartmental project meetings with local and state partnering organizations. Assists with community needs assessment for tobacco prevention including gathering information and input from youth, parents and the community through outreach meetings. Assists with the Tobacco Prevention strategy in cooperation with other team members and other departments. Participates in efforts to increase cessation services and promotion across prevention and clinic programs. Helps to maintain project files, records, contracts, and database. Remains current on literature, trends, and developments in tobacco prevention. Assists with organizing youth activities under Youth Empowerment and Prevention. Some nights and weekends will be required based on program events. Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education, Experience, and Licenses:
Requires a High School diploma or GED. Equivalent years of coursework in health, education, social science or closely related field Or an Associates' degree preferred. Minimum of one (1) year related experience working with health education programs preferred. OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must obtain your CPS certificate within your first two years upon hiring.
Driving Requirements:
Must maintain a valid Oregon driver's license or obtain one upon hire, qualify for the Tribe's vehicle insurance, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.
Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications:
Requires basic knowledge of program development, evaluation, and policy/procedure development. Demonstrated knowledge, experience or ability to engage in community-based participatory research activities. Experience working with Tribal or other Indian organizations is desired. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills that include verbal, written and body language. Must have the ability to relate well with children/youth and adults of various ages. Must be proficient in MS Office Products. Accuracy and attention to detail in your work is required. Working some evenings and weekends will be required for program events. Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication. Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks. Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally. Occasionally requires lifting of up to 40 pounds. Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations. This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions. Supports a safe work environment by performing all duties in accordance with Tribal safety policies and procedures, and Emergency Management Plan. Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations. May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies. Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
