Job Description

Description We are looking for a Grant Analyst to join a non-profit organization on a 2-month Contract assignment based in New York, New York. This fully remote opportunity will support a high-volume grantmaking cycle by evaluating financial materials, preparing reporting tools, and helping applicants and grantees stay aligned with funding requirements. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, sound judgment with financial data, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines while communicating clearly with external partners.
Responsibilities:
  • Examine budgets submitted with new grant applications, verify numerical accuracy, and identify expenses that do not align with program plans or funding guidelines.
  • Build and organize financial tracking workbooks for newly approved grantees so they can report spending and budget activity accurately.
  • Review financial reports from current grantees, assess completeness and compliance, and note discrepancies or items that require revision.
  • Communicate with applicants and grantee organizations to clarify budget questions, request corrections, and resolve reporting issues clearly and effectively.
  • Maintain clear documentation of reviews, follow-up actions, and financial observations to support organized grant records.
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure financial tools and reporting materials reflect approved award terms and budget expectations.
  • Manage several time-sensitive assignments at once during an active grantmaking period while maintaining a high standard of accuracy. Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience working with grant budgets, financial reporting, spreadsheet analysis, or related finance-focused responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to review numerical data carefully and spot inconsistencies, calculation errors, or noncompliant expenses.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets for organizing, analyzing, and validating financial information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence interacting directly with external applicants and grantees.
  • Proven organizational and time-management abilities, including handling multiple deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and productively in a remote environment.
  • Background in grants administration, nonprofit finance, philanthropy, government grants, grant management, or post-grant processes is preferred.
