JOB DESCRIPTION
Title:
Youth Engagement & Prevention Coordinator Location:
Coalition office at the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police Department and Mount Vernon Community School District; participating schools and communities throughout rural Linn County.
Schedule:
Flexible grant-funded schedule of 20-40 hours per week, based on program needs and the selected candidate.
Compensation:
Annual full-time salary range: $40,000-$60,000. Actual compensation will depend on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience, assigned responsibilities, approved work schedule, and available grant funding. Compensation for part-time or reduced-hour positions will be prorated according to the approved schedule. Position Purpose Help young people find their voices and become leaders in prevention by coordinating meaningful youth participation, school-based programs, leadership opportunities, and youth-led prevention strategies. Qualifications 1. Experience working with middle-school, high-school, or college-aged youth strongly preferred. 2. Experience facilitating groups, teaching, coaching, mentoring, or implementing youth programs preferred. 3. Bachelor's degree in prevention, education, public health, behavioral health, human services, communications, community development, or a related field preferred; relevant education and successful experience may be considered in place of a degree. 4. Demonstrated ability to build respectful, productive relationships with youth, families, schools, community organizations, and diverse partners. 5. Strong organization, communication, presentation, and follow-through skills. 6. Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and contribute effectively within a collaborative team. 7. Willingness to learn and implement evidence-based prevention programs, grant requirements, data-collection procedures, and confidentiality expectations. 8. Proficiency with common office, virtual-meeting, presentation, and data-entry technology. 9. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel throughout the service area and for required training or conferences. 10. Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for meetings or community events, and travel for trainings and conferences. 11. Successful completion of required criminal history, child-abuse, and other employment background checks. 12. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Performance Responsibilities Develop trusting, appropriate, and inclusive relationships with youth across participating schools and communities. Recruit, orient, support, and retain members of youth advisory and youth prevention groups. Coordinate regular youth meetings, workgroups, leadership activities, and peer-led prevention projects. Prepare for and implement approved evidence-based prevention curricula and educational programming with fidelity. Coordinate classroom schedules, program logistics, materials, and communication with school administrators and instructional staff. Administer and maintain required attendance records, pre/post assessments, participant feedback, and program documentation. Engage youth in developing prevention messaging, social-norms campaigns, presentations, and community-awareness activities. Plan and support youth leadership conferences, trainings, service opportunities, recognition activities, and community events. Ensure youth voice is meaningfully incorporated into coalition assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Connect youth and families with appropriate prevention, mental-health, substance-use, and community resources without providing clinical services. Coordinate with school counselors, teachers, administrators, law enforcement, youth-serving organizations, and other community partners. Follow all school, district, coalition, confidentiality, mandatory-reporting, and youth-safety policies. Maintain accurate, complete, and timely records required for grant reporting and program evaluation. Assist with community assessment, outreach, data collection, coalition recruitment, and grant activities as assigned. Participate in required staff meetings, coalition meetings, training, professional development, and grant-related conferences. Protect coalition, district, participant, equipment, and program information and resources. Maintain and improve professional competence in youth engagement, substance-use prevention, mental-health promotion, and evidence-based practice. Perform other duties consistent with the position and grant requirements as assigned. Terms of Employment 1. Annual grant-funded employment agreement. Current primary grant funding is anticipated through 2031; continued employment is contingent upon grant funding, program need, satisfactory performance, and Board approval. 2. Flexible grant-funded schedule of 20-40 hours per week, based on program needs and the selected candidate. 3. Thirty- and forty-hour positions include applicable employee benefits in accordance with eligibility requirements, district policy, and the individual employment agreement. 4. Eight paid holidays, vacation, and sick days annually for eligible positions, prorated as applicable and administered according to the employment agreement and district policy. 5. Travel throughout the six-community service area in rural Linn County and occasional in-state or out-of-state travel for required training and conferences may be required. 6. Work may include occasional evenings, weekends, school-day hours, and community events. 7. Employment conditions, compensation, leave, benefits, and other provisions will be governed by the approved individual agreement and applicable Mount Vernon Community School District policies. Evaluation Performance of this position will be evaluated by the Executive Director, with oversight from the Fiscal Agent, Mount Vernon Community School District, in accordance with the individual employment agreement, applicable district policies, approved grant requirements, and assigned performance objectives.
