Job Summary Under general direction of the Collection and Distribution Manager performs a variety of tasks to support the utilities department in maintaining the warehouse and inventory, order materials and supplies, receives and distributes materials and supplies. Essential duti e s and responsibili t ies may include, but are not limited to the followi n g: Issues materials and parts to staff and contractors. Ensures they are returned to the stockroom if necessary. Cleans and repairs used shovels, hammers, ratchets, and other tools. Distributes purchased items to customers. Orders materials and supplies in order to maintain an adequate inventory. Determines quantity of items required, within guidelines, and places orders in a timely manner. Ensures proper materials are purchased and issued to work crews to prevent delays in the field. Receives and examines items for conformance with specifications and reports discrepancies. Maintains a computerized inventory system and makes additions, changes, and deletions to warehouse menu. Ensures correct account codes are entered for items ordered. Orders special materials or parts to repair broken valves, fire hydrants, or other water utilities property as requested. Loads and unloads materials and parts on trucks and trailers for employees and contractors. Operates different sizes of industrial equipment to perform this function. Responsible for maintaining the warehouse facilities and equipment and ensuring a clean safe work environment. Maintains accurate records regarding warehouse operations. Conducts on-site inspections of contractors' materials to ensure they meet specifications. Assist meter services by issuing and reading meters in warehouse stock as required. May be required to deliver materials and parts to field locations. Assist in daily operations such as, exercises valves, conducts distribution flushing, performs fire hydrant maintenance, tests hydrant meters for accuracy. As time allows, minor department vehicle duties performed to District standards, including proper documentation. Be advocates promoting health and safety in the workplace. Skills Skill in using common tools, equipment and materials of the trade. Utilize positive and professional communication skills. Abilities Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, the public and others; to write and speak clearly and concisely. Ability to operate various industrial equipment. Ability to communicate with the public, to speak and write clearly, maintain effective working relationships with others, and operate equipment in a safe manner.
