An Inventory or Supply Specialist specializes in tracking and managing inventory and supplies to improve production or distribution at a company or organization. Manages purchase orders, or distribution of materials between different centers of a large company.
This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Asheville VA Medical Center, Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service. The position serves as a Supply Technician, performing work comprising a wide range of systematized supply operations such as performing records functions in inventory, storage, cataloging, receipting, and control processes.

Time-In-Grade Requirement :
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience includes:
Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work; Develops and maintains the file systems for the Inventory/Supply process; Provide supplies and material to clinical and/or administrative areas of a facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing supplies, instruments and other material; Pulling stock, replenishing stock, and maintaining records on stock levels.
Preferred Experience:
Knowledge of medical supplies and purchasing experience.
Physical Requirements:
Required to walk, push, pull, lift, climb and bend in order to perform supply inventory stock receipt, storage and issuance, and demonstrate equipment use to patients. Work will be regularly performed in a stock room and/or in an office setting (ie: gathering supplies, issuing equipment, entering inventory data, etc.) The work is performed indoors, in either a stockroom/supply area or in an office. The area is adequately lit, heated, and ventilated. A workstation provided.
