Inventory Control Specialist

Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Inventory Control Specialist to join our supply chain and warehouse management team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing inventory accuracy, optimizing stock levels, and ensuring seamless inventory operations across multiple warehouse locations. Your expertise in data analysis, process improvement, and supply chain logistics will drive efficiency and support our company's strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, technical proficiency with inventory management systems, and excellent cross-functional communication abilities. Duties Monitor and maintain accurate inventory levels through regular data collection, analysis, and reconciliation using warehouse management systems (WMS) and ERP platforms such as AS400 or SAP. Conduct root cause analysis to identify discrepancies, stock shortages, or excess inventory issues, implementing effective corrective actions. Collaborate with procurement, sourcing, and logistics teams to optimize inventory replenishment strategies and improve demand planning accuracy. Utilize data mining tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Nielsen to visualize inventory trends, forecast needs, and support decision-making processes. Negotiate with suppliers and vendors to ensure favorable pricing, contracts, and delivery terms that align with category management goals. Lead process improvement initiatives focused on materials handling, shipping & receiving, order fulfillment, and warehouse operations efficiency. Manage warehouse distribution activities including stocking strategies, materials management, and logistics inventory control to maximize space utilization and reduce costs. Support warehouse management by overseeing forklift operations when necessary for heavy lifting or materials movement within the facility. Develop financial models for inventory valuation, pricing strategies, and supply chain analytics to inform purchasing decisions. Foster strong cross-functional communication across departments such as merchandising, production planning, and finance to streamline operations. Experience Proven experience in warehouse distribution or supply chain management with a focus on inventory control systems. Demonstrated expertise in data analytics tools such as SQL, Excel data analysis, Power BI, Tableau or Nielsen for data visualization and reporting. Strong understanding of warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP platforms like AS400 or SAP, and inventory management software. Experience in procurement negotiations, supplier management, contracts review, and sourcing strategies. Hands-on knowledge of materials handling equipment including forklifts; certification preferred but not required. Background in demand planning, production scheduling (MRP), logistics coordination, and shipping & receiving processes. Excellent analysis skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis and implement process improvements effectively. Strong mathematical aptitude combined with technical proficiency in data collection methods and supply chain analytics tools such as Tableau or Power BI. Ability to communicate effectively across departments to facilitate collaboration on inventory-related initiatives. Familiarity with financial modeling related to inventory valuation and pricing strategies is a plus.
