Field / Laydown Yard Position Overview We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Materials & Inventory Specialist to support material accountability, inventory control, receiving, shipping, storage, and material handling operations at a field laydown yard. The position will work with the Materials Services organization to receive, inspect, organize, track, issue, and relocate materials while maintaining accurate inventory records. The ideal candidate has experience with inventory management, warehousing, material handling, Microsoft Excel and Word , and is comfortable learning inventory management systems and other business applications. This role involves working both indoors and outdoors, including exposure to heat, inclement weather, and varying field conditions. Heavy equipment and construction experience is preferred. Key Responsibilities Issue materials under proper authorization and maintain required records. Receive materials, verify quantities, and visually inspect materials for identity, damage, breakage, and condition. Process material receipts and related documentation. Identify, sort, and record returned materials. Place usable materials into inventory and properly segregate non-usable materials for scrap. Report irregularities, discrepancies, and abnormal conditions. Prepare and pack materials for shipment or storage. Prepare required shipping documentation and records. Support shipping and receiving activities, including materials requiring specific safety and environmental procedures. Maintain accurate inventory records and material locations. Perform inventory cycle counts and assist with discrepancy adjustments. Assist with maintaining efficient storage layouts, bins, racks, and material locations. Operate computers, scanners, printers, calculators, and inventory management systems. Learn and use inventory management software such as Maximo . Operate material handling equipment including forklifts, hand trucks, low-lift trucks, hoists, overhead cranes, order pickers, and other equipment as required. Safely move and handle heavy, awkward, and/or long materials. Operate company vehicles when required and authorized. Assist with relocating and delivering materials as needed. Work collaboratively with supervisors and other Materials Services personnel. Follow all company safety rules, operating procedures, and environmental requirements. Perform other related duties as assigned. Equipment Experience Experience operating heavy material-handling equipment is preferred, including: 35,000-lb heavy-duty forklifts JLG Telehandlers Motorized forklifts Hoists Overhead cranes Order pickers Other material-handling equipment Candidates may be trained on specific equipment, but prior heavy equipment or construction experience is highly valuable. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 1 year of experience in inventory control, inventory management, material handling, warehousing, logistics, or a related field. Basic computer skills and ability to learn inventory management software. Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word preferred. Strong understanding of shipping, receiving, logistics, and inventory relocation. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to work independently and communicate effectively. Ability to safely lift up to 70 pounds . Ability to operate material-handling equipment, including motorized forklifts. Ability to operate road vehicles as required. Valid driver's license appropriate for the position. Ability to successfully complete required testing, including a Physical Ability Test (PAT) . Ability to work safely in both indoor and outdoor environments and varying weather conditions. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Maximo or another inventory management/ERP system. Heavy equipment operation experience. Construction or utility industry experience. Experience working in a laydown yard, warehouse, storeroom, or industrial environment. Forklift and telehandler experience. Experience handling large, heavy, awkward, or oversized materials. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM . Overtime may be required based on business needs. Primarily field-based work at a laydown yard. Work may involve extended periods of standing, walking, lifting, and material handling. Frequent exposure to outdoor conditions, including heat and inclement weather. Ability to safely handle materials weighing up to 70 pounds. Some local travel may be required. Temporary or permanent relocation within an assigned territory may occasionally be required based on business needs. Safety Requirements Safety is a critical component of this position. Candidates must demonstrate a strong safety mindset and consistently follow established safety procedures and operating practices. Steel-toe boots are required. Long pants/jeans and an appropriate T-shirt are permitted. Other required PPE will be provided. Candidates who wear eyeglasses must have appropriate side shields. If operating company vehicles, a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review will be required. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a dependable, punctual, safety-conscious, and team-oriented materials professional with hands-on inventory, warehouse, logistics, or material-handling experience. The candidate should be comfortable working outdoors, operating heavy equipment, handling large materials, maintaining accurate inventory records, and using Microsoft Office applications while remaining willing to learn new systems and processes.

Pay:

From $22.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
