The ideal candidate must be experienced in operating backhoes, street sweepers, spray patchers, dump trucks (with and without plows), front-end loaders, and other related machinery. Candidates should also possess knowledge of concrete work, including framing and finishing, as well as general street maintenance practices. This position requires physical labor in all weather conditions. Participation in the City's snow and ice removal operations and response to emergency situations, including water breaks, severe weather, storms, and other municipal emergencies, is mandatory. Employees may be required to work overtime, evenings, overnight hours, weekends, and holidays when called upon for these operations.

Essential Job Functions Operates heavy and specialized equipment, including backhoes, street sweepers, spray patchers, dump trucks, front-end loaders, bucket trucks, and other equipment used for street and infrastructure maintenance. Operates additional equipment such as brush chippers, sidewalk plows, jackhammers, chainsaws, concrete saws, drills, air hammers, and other small tools. Performs seasonal duties, including snow plowing, salting, storm cleanup, and storm drain cleaning. Responds to mandatory overtime and emergency callouts as directed, including snow and ice events, water main breaks, severe storms, flooding, downed trees, and other emergency conditions requiring City response. Conducts street patching, curb and sidewalk framing and finishing, and related concrete work. Assists with the repair and maintenance of water, sewer, and storm drainage systems. Completes lawn, fence, and driveway repairs caused by City operations. Maintains landscaped areas, including mowing, trimming, planting, and applying chemicals as properly licensed. Assists with traffic control operations, including signage, barricades, and flagging. Conducts routine equipment inspections and basic maintenance. Loads and unloads trucks and assists with attaching and removing equipment accessories. Maintains records related to work completed and equipment usage. Provides effective customer service and represents the City in a professional manner. Participates in required safety and departmental training activities. Other Duties Performs related work as required and assists with other City departments and functions as assigned. QualificationsTraining and/or Education High school diploma or GED equivalent. Experience in construction, maintenance, repair work, and/or heavy equipment operation. Licenses or Certificates Valid driver's license required. Illinois Class B CDL or higher preferred. Possession of, or ability to obtain, applicable IEPA General Standards and Applicator licenses/certifications for Right-of-Way, Turf, and Mosquito Control, as required by the City. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Proven ability to safely operate backhoes, street sweepers, spray patchers, dump trucks, front-end loaders, and related equipment. Proficiency in concrete framing and finishing. Understanding of applicable traffic laws, worksite safety standards, and equipment maintenance practices. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, residents, and the public. Ability to perform physically demanding work in adverse weather conditions. Ability and willingness to respond to emergency callouts and work mandatory overtime when required. Supplemental Information Regular Hours:

Forty (40) hours per week, Monday through Friday, generally between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Mandatory Overtime & Emergency Callouts:

This position is considered essential to City operations during certain emergencies and weather events. Employees are required to respond to after-hours callouts and work mandatory overtime when directed for snow and ice removal, water breaks, severe storms, flooding, downed trees, infrastructure emergencies, and other situations requiring an immediate City response.
