The salary for this position is the minimum of the range. This position works independently to perform a range of manual labor and other tasks in support of County activities by performing the following essential functions with limited supervision.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides cordial, responsive, and accurate customer service. Performs manual labor and uses various appliances, hand tools and motorized and electrical tools. Performs routine turf management and landscape functions. Operates hand motorized and electrical tools such as string trimmers, push mowers, painter, trash truck and riding mowers. Maintains planting beds, plants, waters and mulches/trims trees and shrubs and mows grass. Performs routine custodial duties. May operate snowplow, shovels snow and spreads salt or other abrasives on walkways. Learns and applies safe maintenance practices. Maintains a clean and orderly work area. Performs routine landscape functions; water lawns, operates weed eaters, mowers. Maintains planting beds, clearing, and pruning operations, plants and mulches trees and shrubs. Cleans and sharpens mowers. Performs routine preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles. Performs other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read a limited number of two-and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers written in English. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using standard units of weight, measurement, volume, time, and distance. Ability to use fractions and percentages.REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions. Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities. Ability to work independently on a day-to-day basis.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possession of a Class C Motor Vehicle Operator's License issued by the Maryland MVA (or equivalent), DOT Physical Certification Card is required within 90 days of hire.NIMS TRAINING
The following National Incident Management System (NIMS) Training is required within the first year of employment: Non-supervisory employees Courses 700 EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE A
High School Diploma or a GED; and one year or more years of related experience or training. Chainsaw, forklift, and/or bucket truck certification preferred.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.WORK ENVIRONMENT
Regularly works inside and in outside weather conditions. On occasion, work is performed in potentially adverse weather conditions. Frequently works near moving mechanical parts. Occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration and risk of infection or electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate, however, on occasion may be loud.COMMENTS
This position has been designated as anESSENTIAL
POSITION and may be required to report to or remain on duty when County offices are closed due to inclement weather or for other reasons. An employee in this position may be required to work shift work, overtime, weekends, and holidays and/or remain on standby for a call back to work. Employees must conform to applicable policies and safety rules. This position is one within the Queen Anne's County Civil Service System. An employee must serve a period of twelve months probation during which he or she may be terminated without notice, cause, hearing or right of appeal.
