CITY OF MELVINDALE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS FULL-TIME WATER/DPW LABORER FULL-TIME SENIOR MECHANIC

(Senior Mechanic Applicants must be Licensed Mechanic by the State of Michigan in a minimum of 8-Mechanical/auto repair Specialties.)

ELIGIBILITY LIST SALARY RANGE

$20.72 - $30.16 per HOUR plus full comprehensive benefits package.

APPLICANTS MUST AT TIME OF APPLICATION

1. Be eighteen (18) years of age or older 2. United States Citizen 3. High school graduate or GED. 4. Must possess a valid Michigan Drivers License with an acceptable driving record.

DRIVING DISQUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES ARE

5a. Operating while impaired (OWL) conviction within the last five (5) years. 5b. Unlawful blood alcohol level (UBAL) conviction within the last five (5) years. 5c. Operating while under the influence of liquor (OUIL) conviction within the last five (5) years. 5d. Five (5) or more points currently on record. 5. Must be of good moral character with no prior felony convictions. 6. Must be able to pass skill, oral, physical and background tests.

AT TIME OF HIRE

All new employees, as a condition of their continued employment, will be required to possess and maintain, at their own expense, a valid Michigan Commercial Drivers License, minimum Type B, tanker, air brakes, and Hazmat, within 90 days of employment. Applicants must have a minimum S4 Water Classification or obtain an S4 Water Classification within the first 2 years of employment.

APPLICANTS MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM THE FOLLOWING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Operate all types of motor vehicles. Must perform strenuous physical activities outdoors in all weather extremes: heat, cold, rain or snow. Must be able to work in excavated holes and raised platforms to fifty (50) feet. Be exposed (with proper protective gear) to many foreign substances including weed poisons, chemicals, bacteria, sanitary sewer fluids, brake lining dusts, etc.
