LABORER - SOLID
WASTE's role within the big picture of the City's overall success. Performs semi-skilled and manual labor, collecting residential refuse, and assisting the Driver in ensuring prompt and courteous waste removal services.
LABORER - SOLID WASTE
functions include but are not limited to the following:
Waste Collection and Disposal:
Collect residential refuse throughout the city using a large commercial truck. Safely load waste and carry bags and containers for disposal.
Vehicle Operation and Maintenance:
Ride on the garbage truck to assist the Driver on a designated route. Operate packing mechanisms, levers, and handles for loading and compressing refuse. Clean, maintain, and perform minor repairs on the issued truck.
Customer Service and Route Completion:
Courteously interact with customers, dispatchers, and others to ensure timely and professional service. Monitor waste for unacceptable items and clean spill areas according to safety standards. Complete pre- and post-operation inspections, reporting safety issues as needed. Maintain adherence to required productivity standards for efficient customer service.
Route Completion and Cleaning:
Collect bags or approved items from residents' homes. Clean the outside of the truck, grease truck bearings, and clean equipment.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED Experience :
No previous relevant work experience is required, but previous solid waste experience is preferred.
Supervisory:
No previous supervisory experience is required.
