Production Planner / Customer Service Representative HONBLUE Honolulu, HI Job Details Full-time $20 - $28 an hour 22 hours ago Benefits Health insurance 401(k) Paid time off Employee assistance program 401(k) matching Qualifications ERP systems Attention to detail Production planning Project scheduling
Full Job Description Overview:
HONBLUE has been printing Hawaii's work since 1967. This role sits right at the center of it. When a project turns from a conversation into a real job with a real deadline, you are the person who makes that happen and the person who knows where it stands. You will initially work primarily on our commercial print and digital print side: sheetfed offset presses, digital presses, and the bindery and finishing that follows. Over time you will have the opportunity to expand your skillset to other areas of the business such as Large Format Graphics, Signage, and Blueprints. Sales brings in a prospective client, you turn it into an estimate that becomes an order and then a delivered job, all while partnering ensuring client feels informed rather than chased. You will sit close to pre-press, the press floor, and bindery, and you will watch what you planned come off the press and go out the door. We hire this seat for organization, judgment, and careful attention to detail. If you have worked in print before, that is a real advantage and we will pay attention to it. If you have not, and you are the kind of person who keeps twenty moving pieces straight without dropping one, we will teach you the rest. Build accurate estimates with sales, pre-press, and production Be the client's main point of contact after handoff from sales Review orders, help schedule jobs across press, bindery, and delivery, and project manage multi-part jobs end to end Keep records accurate in our MIS/ERP for job tracking and invoicing What you will do: Work with sales, pre-press, and production to put together timely and accurate estimates. Serve as the client's main point of contact after handoff from sales, with clear and dependable communication. Review and process incoming orders, checking accuracy and completeness before they enter production. Support a team effort to plan and schedule jobs across the press floor, bindery, and delivery so committed deadlines hold. Project manage multi-part and long-running jobs end to end, tracking status and updating clients before they have to ask. Coordinate across sales, production, and shipping to keep work moving and to bring early awareness to potential delays. Keep records accurate in our MIS/ERP system for job tracking and invoicing. Support inventory and billing during peak periods and absences. Work with the rest of the team to find ways to improve scheduling and cut down on gaps, self-inflicted rushes, and avoidable overtime. Other duties as assigned, including supporting broader team or organizational projects and objectives.
What Good Looks Like:
Detail and accuracy. Quantities, stocks, sizes, finishing, and dates are right the first time. You reread the ticket before it goes to the floor, because an error caught here is cheap and an error caught by the client is expensive. You triple-check your own work and double-check your colleagues' work. Internal communication. You talk to pre-press, billing and the production manager before a problem turns into a bottleneck. Client communication and experience. Short response times and few mistakes. Clients feel looked after rather than chased. Continuous improvement. You fix recurring friction instead of absorbing the same problem every week.
What You Will Bring:
Strong organization and the ability to hold many moving jobs at once without losing one. Careful attention to detail, particularly with numbers, specifications, and dates. Clear, warm and professional communication by phone, email, and in person. Comfort with spreadsheets and scheduling tools, and the willingness to learn a new MIS/ERP system properly. Steadiness under deadline pressure, and good judgment about what to escalate and when. Helpful, and genuinely valued.
Not required:
Prior print experience of any kind: pre-press, estimating, order entry, customer service at a printer, bindery, or time on a press floor. If you have preflighted a file, built an imposition, or worked a job ticket, you will pick this role up faster and we will recognize that in where you start. Print is a trade you can learn here, and several people on our team did exactly that. Experience with EPMS is particularly useful but not expected.
Essential functions:
Physical and environmental requirements. Reasonable accommodation is available. Work at a computer workstation and on the phone for extended periods. Communicate clearly by phone, email, and in person throughout the day. Distinguish color and fine detail when reviewing proofs and samples. Move between the office and the production floor. Use PPE where appropriate. Lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally, such as proofs, paper samples, and records.
Why HONBLUE:
With nearly sixty years in business, you will be joining a team that sets the bar for industry excellence in Hawaii. You will have the opportunity to learn from the best, with many of Honblue's employees having spent 10, 20, or 30 years serving our customers. With more than 80 employees, Honblue offers the opportunity to continue to learn, grow and experience new things should you want to try different roles around the company over time. Importantly, you will see the result of your planning leave the building, delivering high-quality products to satisfied customers. HONBLUE Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
