Job Description
Logistics Coordinator Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Sr. Logistics Coordinator in Downers Grove. In this position, you will oversee and manage our carrier operation transportation, freight, and carrier management, ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and compliant movement of goods while supporting customer delivery requirements and operational excellence. Compensation for this role is between $70K - $87K Key Responsibilities Carrier Performance & Freight Management Monitor performance, on-time delivery, freight costs, and transportation risks. Track and report scorecards and freight cost trends. Identify opportunities to improve transportation efficiency and reduce disruptions. Carrier Sourcing & Vendor Management Manage RFQs and support sourcing of new transportation providers. Evaluate and onboard for bulk, dry van, and ocean freight services. Participate in audits and lead investigations into transportation issues, implementing corrective actions when needed. Freight Cost Control Resolve freight invoice discrepancies with accounting. Support cost-saving initiatives and identify opportunities to reduce transportation expenses. Logistics & Operational Support Ensure export documentation is accurate and compliant. Oversee Shipping and Receiving operations, including scheduling, shipment processing, transportation execution, communications, and KPI reporting. Coordinate sample shipments, special transportation requests, and customer delivery requirements. Support resolution of logistics issues and on-time delivery performance. Continuous Improvement & Leadership Drive process improvements, operational efficiency, and cost effectiveness. Report operational risks and issues to management. Maintain strong communication with internal teams, customers, and vendor partners. Support cross-functional collaboration and continuous improvement initiatives. Desired Competencies Strong transportation and logistics management experience. Vendor/carrier relationship management and sourcing expertise. Freight cost analysis and invoice management. Root cause analysis and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently. Excellent communication, collaboration, and customer service skills. Commitment to accountability, ethics, professionalism, and continuous learning. M inimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or 2-5 years of relevant experience preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis and reporting. Knowledge of National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC), freight classes, density-based classifications, and LTL carrier tariff structures. Working knowledge of U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) PHMSA regulations governing hazardous materials transportation. Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. export compliance requirements, including export documentation, denied party screening, and applicable trade regulations. Experience working with carriers, freight providers, or transportation management preferred. Ability to analyze transportation costs, carrier performance, and service metrics.
