Job Summary:
The Production Planner oversees the timelines of all jobs. They are responsible for scheduling all work through the manufacturing departments, ensuring deadlines will be met and quality maintained. They will continually monitor the status of ordered material, manufactured parts, outsourced parts, purchased components, finished processes, and shipment setup, to ensure details or steps don't fall through the cracks and affect timelines. They will oversee our MRP system to ensure it is being utilized properly and tracking projects effectively.
Job Duties:
  • Communicate with the sales department to ensure that hours are allotted in the schedule for new and pending orders.
  • Maintain communication with management to monitor future manpower needs.
  • Upon release from Engineering, follow procedures to review the bill of materials for accuracy, upload to the MRP system, map parts through all departments, and estimate hours.
  • Work closely with Project Management and the Plant Manager, to work through any manufacturability issues and outsource needs.
  • Work closely with Purchasing, to ensure all raw material and purchased components will arrive when needed.
  • Work with receiving and shipping to ensure deliveries happen to maintain schedules, and shipping deadlines are met.
  • Assist manufacturing departments by answering relevant questions, tracking parts, and helping complete work if needed.
  • Bring any issues or constraints to the attention of Project Managers and/or management as soon as possible, so they can assist in resolving issues or finding more resources, and so Project Management has ample time to communicate with customers if needed.
  • Act as the Project Manager for small projects that don't require engineering involvement. I.e. Spare parts.
  • Ensure that all reference information on the WIP and other documents stays up to date with progress and current due dates.
  • Coordinate weekly Scheduling meeting to set priorities with management.
  • Create weekly schedules with deadlines for all departments.
  • Assist with projects in other departments as needed.
Skills & Qualifications:
Familiar with our industry and supplier base. (preferred) Experienced in managing workload and monitoring schedules. Able to read and understand engineering drawings and models, including weldment prints. Able to read tape measures and other measuring devices. Familiar with rollers, chain or belt drivetrain and fluid power components and their applications. (preferred) Understands basics of pneumatics and electrical systems. (preferred) Familiar with different types of metals. Thoroughly understands equipment manufacturing and the phases of the design and build process. Understands time needed for laser, welding, bending, CNC machining and assembly, including wire and pipe fitting processes. (preferred) Proficient in computer programs such as MS Office Suite (including Excel), and CAD viewers. Proficient in utilizing MRP software (Steelhead Technologies or similar) Has strong mechanical aptitude. Able to work in a fast paced, dynamic, and collaborative environment. Organized with the ability to multitask and manage time well. Well written, with strong verbal communication skills. Has strong math skills. Has strong analytical skills. Able to sit at a computer for extended periods.
