Full Job Description SUMMARY:
Under the leadership of the Manager
  • Operations, the Transit Coordinator is responsible for supporting and monitoring various aspects of revenue service operations.
The role focuses on maintaining safety, delivering high-quality service, and achieving on-time performance goals. The Transportation Coordinator ensures that necessary resources are allocated to meet service commitments and facilitates effective radio communications to support field operations. This position also provides leadership and upholds performance standards in alignment with the organization's Strategic Plan.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Monitor service, investigate and analyze situations which impact or may impact bus service. Communicate information and/or recommendations to appropriate RTA personnel. Respond to and assist in the investigation of accidents, incidents, equipment failures, schedule delays, service problems, operator and customer conflicts, complaints, and disputes. Provide customer assistance such as issuing system and scheduling information, communicating passenger transport, handling unruly/ill passengers by requesting medical assistance, obtaining law enforcement assistance, or personally and professionally handling situations. Support control of radio communications is utilized to maintain services by directing operators, specialists, and street operations support staff. Support, monitor, and coordinate priorities and non-routine communications with minimal notice, to the changing needs of RTA regarding coverage of operations such as emergency situations, bus replacement and repair, re-routing of buses, delays in service, and detours. Coordinate with internal departments and other entities regarding incidents, accidents, emergencies, road conditions, adverse weather, detours, and schedule changes. Accurately record and maintain events and activities in the CAD/AVL system. Assists with recording attendance. Maintains records in Trapeze

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The position may involve sitting for extended periods with regular freedom of movement. Occasional light lifting, bending, and stooping may be required. Occasional light physical effort with repeated changes in position within the work routine.
POSITION TYPE & EXPECTED SCHEDULE
This is a full-time position with a schedule that may include Monday through Sunday, depending on operational needs.
TRAVEL:
Minimal travel required, primarily local for conferences or training. No expected overnight stays.

An associate's degree is preferred but not required. A combination of education and experience with bus transit may be used in fulfilling the educational requirements. Strong knowledge of locations, streets and highways in the Dayton, Montgomery County area preferred but not required.

This is a non-exempt, pay grade 13 position with an initial salary hiring range of $54,104 (minimum) to $67,632 (midpoint), dependent on qualifications and experience.
