This position plays a key role in supporting supply chain operations, including production planning, inventory management, logistics, forecasting, and supplier performance. The Materials Planning Specialist will work closely with Operations, Procurement, Quality, Maintenance, and Finance to ensure materials are available when needed, production schedules remain on track, and customer requirements are met.
The ideal candidate is highly analytical, comfortable working with ERP/MRP systems and large data sets, and experienced in supply chain or operations planning within a manufacturing environment.
QualificationsBachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field required.
Minimum of 3 years of supply chain or operations planning experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
Experience working with ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, or similar platforms.
Strong analytical, planning, and forecasting skills.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with Power Query and/or VBA is a plus.
Experience with Power BI or similar analytics/reporting platforms.
Knowledge of statistical forecasting models and supply chain planning tools.
Understanding of applicable chemical handling and transportation regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT requirements.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Ability to manage complex data sets and translate information into actionable recommendations.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
ResponsibilitiesCoordinate import and export shipments using air, ocean, and ground transportation.
Ensure shipments are delivered on time and comply with applicable global trade requirements.
Monitor and improve freight, warehousing, and outbound logistics performance.
Ensure hazardous material transportation complies with applicable domestic and international regulations.
Analyze shipment delays and constraints and identify opportunities to improve customer service.
Monitor raw material, work-in-process, and finished goods inventory.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing excess inventory and working capital.
Monitor material consumption, shelf-life requirements, shortages, and potential obsolescence.
Develop safety stock and reorder point models for critical materials.
Assist with creating and maintaining production schedules for manufacturing operations.
Coordinate with Operations, Quality, and Maintenance to ensure production schedules are achievable and meet safety requirements.
Monitor schedule performance and identify opportunities to improve throughput and cycle times.
Analyze supplier performance, including on-time delivery, lead times, and quality concerns.
Work with Procurement to plan for long-lead materials and hazardous chemicals to prevent production disruptions.
Support cost-reduction initiatives and supplier negotiations using data and performance analysis.
Develop dashboards and KPIs for production, inventory, procurement, and customer service levels.
Utilize Excel, Power BI, ERP data, and other analytical tools to identify trends and support operational decisions.
Prepare monthly supply chain reporting packages for leadership.
Support Lean/Six Sigma and other continuous improvement initiatives.
Identify opportunities to automate data processes and improve ERP/MRP system utilization.
Promote strong cross-functional communication between Operations, Procurement, Quality, Finance, and other departments.
