Job Description

Lichtenfelt's is hiring a Customer Care & Order Logistics Associate to serve as our communications "point guard" and back-office order anchor. In this role, you'll be the welcoming voice on our phones, an active sales driver, and the steady hand behind customer order tracking, paperwork reconciliation, and online order fulfillment. We're looking for someone with an ownership mentality ; someone who takes pride in excellence as if your own name were on the sign, owns mistakes openly, and proactively solves problems before being asked. We also need a strong sales mindset paired with genuine hospitality, where every phone call can be a real opportunity to diagnose a problem, guide a customer toward the right solution, invite them out to the nursery, and close a sale. You don't need a horticulture background for this job. If you're curious about plants and love engaging with people, we will teach you the plant care side. What we can't teach is personal accountability, natural warmth, commercial drive, and a sharp eye for administrative detail. Here is the standard (our core values) we hold each other to every day. If this doesn't sound like you, this probably isn't the right fit:
Core Values:
Serve Others - Helping a teammate should be so second nature that it feels weird if you don't do it. We don't wait for people to ask for help; we see a need and fill it, even when it's not convenient. This is a team-first environment. Embrace Hard Work - We take pride in staying focused and outworking the day. We take the work seriously, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. You've got to be able to have a cut-up session, laugh with the crew, and then immediately "flip the switch" to jump back into the grind. Seek Opportunities to Grow - Industry knowledge is what makes us the best, so don't take corrections personally. If you're corrected, just learn it, change it, and move on; it's about the work, not a reflection on you. On the flip side, don't have an attitude when you're teaching others. We're all here to get better, so lead with respect.
Task Examples:
Answering incoming nursery phone calls with energy, warmth, and ownership, treating every ring as a valuable sales and relationship-building opportunity. Diagnosing plant health and troubleshooting questions (watering issues, basic pests, etc.) using our internal training, pairing diagnostic advice with recommended products that drive sales. Creating a direct call-to-action on calls, inviting callers to visit the nursery, setting aside material for them, and converting general interest into on-site traffic. Tracking and managing paperwork for incoming customer orders, paid holds, and web orders from intake through pickup or delivery. Auditing held inventory and following up assertively with customers regarding overstayed orders to keep nursery holding space open and plants in prime condition. Completing weekly paperwork reconciliations for order discrepancies, delivery receipts, and tagging notes alongside our Heads of Product and retail staff. Collaborating with our Administrative & Design Operations team on shared office systems, customer logs, and daily coverage rotations.
Qualifications:
Alignment with our core values and an ownership mindset; high personal standards, zero excuses, and a commitment to doing things right. A blend of hospitality and consultative sales drive: comfortable asking questions, recommending solutions, and asking for the visit or order. Strong written and verbal communication skills with a clear, professional, and engaging phone presence. Sharp organizational instincts with comfort managing order paperwork, reconciliations, and basic computer systems (POS, spreadsheets, or digital workflow tools). Previous green industry experience is beneficial, but not required. We can and will train you on our plant material, plant diagnostics, and specific nursery workflows. Willingness and ability to work on-site in an active, dynamic retail nursery setting. Because of this, applicants should be willing and able to lift 50-75 lbs repeatedly.
Compensation & Time Expectations:
$55,000-60,000/year salary, paid every 2 weeks 40hrs/yr PTO, then 80hrs/yr at 1 year anniversary. 10 add'l days UTO available. 6 paid holidays + paid time off during 2 weeks of closure (one summer, one winter) Company Profit Share eligibility at 1 year anniversary (more info available upon request) 401(k) w/ match after 6 mo. employment Hours are 7:45-4pm, 5 days per week, with some later shifts during peak months Rotating Saturday work, with an average of 2 Saturday shifts/month during the summer and winter and 2-3 Saturday shifts/month in the fall.
