BEST RATE FLEET SERVICES HIGHWAY RESPONSE SPECIALIST 1099
Independent Contractor Position Position Summary Best Rate Fleet Services is seeking a dependable, professional Highway Response Specialist to patrol designated highway corridors and commercial transportation areas, identify disabled commercial vehicles, and generate roadside repair, towing, and shop-service opportunities. This is a field-based independent contractor position. The specialist will use a Company-provided vehicle to travel approved areas, safely contact drivers who may need assistance, collect accurate information, and coordinate service calls with Company dispatch. This position does not perform mechanical repairs unless separately authorized and qualified. Primary Responsibilities The Highway Response Specialist will: Patrol assigned highways, truck stops, rest areas, industrial areas, and commercial transportation corridors. Identify disabled commercial trucks, trailers, and equipment that may need roadside service, towing, tires, diagnostics, or repair. Safely and professionally approach drivers when conditions allow. Introduce Best Rate Fleet Services and explain available services honestly. Collect accurate customer, vehicle, location, and breakdown information. Immediately submit qualified leads to Company dispatch. Coordinate with dispatch while a service request is being created. Provide photos, timestamps, locations, and supporting information when safe and lawful. Maintain daily activity and lead reports. Represent the Company professionally while using Company property, vehicles, uniforms, or branding. Follow all Company safety, vehicle-use, reporting, and customer-service requirements. Required Lead Information For every potential service opportunity, the specialist should collect as much of the following information as possible: Customer or company name Driver's name Driver's phone number Company phone number Exact breakdown location Highway, direction, mile marker, exit, or nearby landmark Truck or trailer unit number Description of the reported problem Type of service requested Photos, when safe and permitted Time the driver was contacted Any immediate roadway or safety concerns All leads must be submitted through the Company's approved dispatch or reporting process. Compensation This is a commission-based independent contractor position.
The contractor will receive:
$50.00 for each qualifying job personally generated by the contractor that results in an invoice issued by Best Rate Fleet Services. A minimum commission guarantee of $500.00 per active week , subject to the terms of the contractor agreement. A commission is earned only when: The contractor identifies or contacts the potential customer. The lead is reported through the approved dispatch process. The customer authorizes service. Best Rate Fleet Services performs the service. The job results in a Company invoice. Canceled calls, duplicate leads, jobs already received by dispatch, jobs not performed, and jobs generated through unsafe, dishonest, or unlawful activity do not qualify for commission. Company-Provided Vehicle and Fuel Best Rate Fleet Services may provide: A Company-owned or authorized vehicle Fuel for approved business use A fuel card Automobile insurance for authorized use Company branding and marketing materials GPS, dash-camera, or vehicle-monitoring equipment All Company property must be used only for authorized business purposes. Personal use of the vehicle or fuel card is prohibited unless specifically approved in writing.
The contractor may not:
Allow unauthorized people to drive or use the vehicle Use Company fuel for a personal vehicle Purchase food, drinks, merchandise, or personal items with the fuel card Disable or tamper with GPS, cameras, or monitoring equipment Perform unauthorized repairs or modifications Use the vehicle for towing, hauling, racing, off-road driving, or personal errands Safety Responsibilities Safety is the highest priority.
The Highway Response Specialist must:
Maintain a valid driver's license. Operate the Company vehicle safely and lawfully. Obey all traffic and parking laws. Avoid stopping in active traffic lanes or unsafe locations. Wear high-visibility clothing when outside the vehicle near traffic. Never text while driving. Never operate the vehicle while impaired, overly fatigued, or distracted. Avoid interfering with police, emergency responders, towing rotations, highway workers, or existing service providers. Decline any stop or customer contact that appears unsafe or unlawful. Immediately report accidents, citations, vehicle damage, mechanical problems, or safety concerns. The specialist is not required to approach any person or vehicle when conditions appear dangerous. Customer Contact Standards The specialist must remain respectful, professional, and honest. The specialist may explain that Best Rate Fleet Services provides commercial roadside repair, towing, truck repair, trailer repair, diagnostics, tires, and related services.
The specialist may not:
Pressure or harass a driver Misrepresent Company services Block or interfere with another provider Promise an exact arrival time without authorization Guarantee a repair result Negotiate pricing without approval Offer unauthorized discounts Extend credit Admit fault or liability Sign agreements on behalf of the Company All pricing, dispatching, payment, and repair authorization decisions must be handled through Company dispatch or management. Vehicle Care and Reporting The contractor is responsible for keeping the Company vehicle clean, safe, and professional in appearance.
Basic daily checks should include:
Tires Lights Fluid levels Warning lights Fuel level Visible damage Safety equipment Company decals and signage Any damage, mechanical issue, warning light, or unsafe condition must be reported immediately.
Qualifications Preferred candidates should have:
A valid driver's license and acceptable driving history Knowledge of highways, truck stops, and commercial transportation areas Strong communication and customer-service skills Ability to work independently in the field Reliable phone communication Ability to accurately document leads and activity Professional appearance and behavior Comfort working around commercial vehicles and roadside environments Good judgment regarding roadway and personal safety Experience in trucking, towing, diesel repair, roadside assistance, dispatching, transportation, sales, or customer service is helpful but not always required. Independent Contractor Status This is a 1099 independent contractor position and not an employee position. The contractor is responsible for personal tax filings and other independent business obligations. The position does not include employee benefits, overtime, paid leave, health insurance, retirement benefits, or unemployment benefits. No specific number of jobs, leads, hours, or assignments is guaranteed. Confidentiality The Highway Response Specialist may have access to confidential information, including: Customer names and contact information Pricing Dispatch records Company procedures Lead sources Business plans Vendor information Internal conversations Photos and records Company operations Confidential information may only be used for authorized Company business and may not be disclosed or used for personal benefit.
