Job Description

Job Summary:
The Production Planner compiles and maintains material and parts inventory and status information to expedite the movement of material and parts between production. Must have the ability to read production schedules, inventory reports, and work orders to determine efficiencies and quality of types and quantities of materials required, availability of stock, and order priority. Performs programmed, routine assignments and creates standard work procedures for others to follow. The Production Planner should be a self-starter and detail-oriented individual who can successfully work in a team environment.
Major Responsibilities/Activities:
Develop and initiate production-planning schedules and job files. Ensure availability of materials before work-order is released. Implement/maintain accurate schedule using SAP or other ERP systems. Identify and resolve inventory discrepancies, manage, and maintain a cycle counting process program. Provide support to the shop floor personnel as required, while also working hand-in-hand with production supervisors. Coordination of material availability by working with the Purchasing Department to ensure that all necessary materials are available to support production demands. Pro-actively communicate across the organization scheduling issues and opportunities to ensure deliveries are met and facility objectives are achieved. All other duties as assigned by the Production Planning Supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
2-4 years of production planning and scheduling experience and/or training in the field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic computer skills (SAP Experience would be an additional asset). Complete knowledge of company products or related industry experience. Must be able to relate and enforce all planning and production procedures without delay. Strong leadership skills. Knowledge of production planning best practices methodologies. Ability to collaborate effectively with plant personnel to develop action plans in reaction to product/production issues while still ensuring a high-level of customer service. Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and prioritize work load while paying attention to detail. Strong analytical & problem solving skills.

The successful candidate must be a highly organized, self-motivated individual who can work independently or collaboratively as a member of a team; above all, must be solutions oriented. Must exhibit strong leadership skills as well as possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and easily adapt to changing situations.
Essential Physical Functions:
Although the Production Planner is not expected to perform extraneous physical activities in the completion of their work, occasional trips into areas of production will be necessary, therefore, he or she should be physically able to safely maneuver in that environment.
