A Production Planner plans and manages production and distribution processes for a company and identifies ways to improve efficiency. Analyzes work flows, plans and schedules orders, manages materials orders and monitors inventory; coordinates with suppliers and vendors.
We are seeking an organized and proactive Production Planner to coordinate and schedule production activities to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and aligned with customer and operational requirements. This role works closely with Operations, Project Management, Purchasing, Sales, Logistics, and Shop Leadership to optimize production schedules, material flow, and capacity planning. The Production Planner will utilize ERP systems (Epicor) and advanced spreadsheet tools to monitor production performance and drive efficiency improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, maintain, and adjust production schedules based on demand forecasts, project requirements, shop capacity, labor availability, and material availability. Analyze sales data, project data, and historical trends to forecast demand and proactively align production plans. Utilize Epicor ERP and Microsoft Excel to plan work orders, track production progress, manage data, and maintain accurate production records. Oversee material flow from suppliers to the production floor, coordinating closely with Purchasing to ensure timely availability of materials and prevent bottlenecks. Monitor production processes and shop performance, identifying potential issues, delays, or capacity constraints and implementing corrective actions as needed. Coordinate job sequencing and priorities with Project Managers, Estimators, Shop Supervisors, Sales, and Logistics teams. Analyze production metrics and performance indicators to improve efficiency, workflow, and on-time delivery. Prepare and present reports on production status, performance metrics, and potential risks to management. Foster strong cross-functional communication to ensure smooth execution of production plans. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering , Business Administration , or a related field (preferred). Minimum 2-3 years of experience in production planning or scheduling, preferably in manufacturing, steel fabrication, or job shop environments. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced) and Microsoft Office applications; experience with Microsoft Teams preferred. Experience with ERP systems (Epicor experience preferred; training provided). Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
