Our volunteer advocates are often the one consistent adult presence a child has throughout a case. The organization operates in the 18th Judicial District and is a member program of Kansas CASA and the National
CASA/GAL
Association. We currently serve 135 children with 82 active volunteer advocates, on an annual operating budget of approximately $550,000, with a staff of 6.
Structure today:
three Advocate Supervisors carrying assigned caseloads, one Office Manager, and one Volunteer Coordinator.
Funding:
a mix of state and federal grants (including VOCA, CVAF, and the Kansas CASA grant), local foundation and corporate grants, individual giving, and fundraising events. Executive Director Position Description The Executive Director (ED) is the chief executive officer of CASA of Sedgwick County and is responsible for strategic leadership, program excellence, community impact, and organizational sustainability. The ED works in partnership with the Board of Directors to advance the mission of recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children and youth involved in the court system due to abuse and neglect. The Executive Director provides oversight of all program operations, ensures compliance with National and Kansas CASA standards, maintains strong community partnerships, and leads strategic growth initiatives. This is a hands-on executive role in a high performing organization that supervises program staff and works closely with the Office Manager to ensure strong operational infrastructure. As CASA Sedgwick County grows, the ED will be responsible for building the organizational structure to best support the organizational and operational structure that meets the needs of the growing caseload. Duties & Responsibilities Organizational Leadership & Strategy
  • Provide visionary and strategic leadership aligned with CASA's mission and long-term goals.
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term strategic plans.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements to increase advocacy impact and service capacity.
  • Lead organizational growth initiatives to increase the number of children served and volunteers recruited.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, equity, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure alignment of agency operations with National CASA and Kansas CASA standards. Program Oversight & Quality Assurance
  • Provide direct supervision to Advocate Supervisors.
  • Ensure effective recruitment, screening, training, supervision, and retention of CASA volunteers.
  • Monitor program data, outcomes, and service metrics to ensure quality advocacy and timely case progression.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of volunteer training curriculum.
  • Ensure proper case assignment practices and manageable caseload standards.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Juvenile Court Administration, Judges, Attorneys, the Case Management Provider, DCF, and community partners.
  • Address complex case issues, ethical concerns, and high-risk advocacy situations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of required state outcome reports and program data.
  • Oversee compliance with all court requirements and child welfare regulations affecting CASA operations. Financial Leadership & Resource Development
  • Work with the Board and CASA Funding Committees to secure adequate funding to sustain and grow the organization.
  • Participate actively in fundraising activities, donor cultivation, and stewardship.
  • Ensure compliance with all grant requirements and restricted funding sources.
  • Collaborate with the Board Treasurer and Office Manager to develop and monitor the annual budget.
  • Monitor financial performance and cash flow to ensure sustainability.
  • Approve expenditures within authority delegated by the Board.
  • Present regular financial and programmatic reports to the Board of Directors. Community Engagement & Public Relations
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for CASA of Sedgwick County.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with courts, child welfare agencies, schools, service providers, civic organizations, and funders.
  • Represent the organization at community events, public speaking engagements, and media opportunities.
  • Support volunteer recruitment efforts through community outreach and public awareness initiatives.
  • Approve major public relations and marketing materials, social media strategy and messaging to ensure brand and mission alignment. Board Relations & Governance
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and agency staff.
  • Attend all board meetings and provide comprehensive reports on program operations, financial status, and strategic initiatives.
  • Support the Board in fulfilling its governance and fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Partner with the Board in strategic planning, policy development, and organizational oversight.
  • Implement board-approved policies and directives. Personnel & Culture Leadership
  • Lead and supervise staff.
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, and separation of staff.
  • Ensure implementation of personnel policies and organizational procedures.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations.
  • Foster professional development and leadership growth among staff.
  • Promote a positive, mission-driven workplace culture centered on advocacy excellence and child well-being. Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in social work, nonprofit management, public administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience, preferably in nonprofit, child welfare, or court-related settings.
  • Experience supervising professional staff.
  • Strong knowledge of child welfare systems and volunteer-driven service models preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising and community engagement.
  • Strong financial literacy and strategic planning experience.
