East Side Soup Kitchen Providing Meals and Hope in the Heart of Saginaw The Executive Director (ED) is the chief staff officer of the East Side Soup Kitchen and is responsible for the leadership, management, and daily operation of the organization. The ED ensures ESSK's mission is carried out with integrity, compassion, and operational excellence while fostering strong relationships within the Saginaw community. Required Qualifications Valid Driver's License and reasonable driving record. Background check is required. Bachelor's degree required. Demonstrated practical, street‑smart awareness and the ability to navigate real‑world community dynamics with sound judgment, empathy, and safety. Proven ability to collaborate with diverse community members, guests, volunteers, donors, and partner organizations , especially within the heart of Saginaw. Experience in nonprofit leadership, human services, food service operations, or community‑based organizations preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and decision‑making skills. Primary Responsibilities Mission & Organizational Leadership Uphold ESSK's mission, values, and commitment to serving the Saginaw community with dignity and respect. Provide strategic leadership to ensure ESSK's programs remain effective, relevant, and mission‑aligned. Maintain a welcoming, safe, and respectful environment for guests, volunteers, and staff. Operational Management Oversee daily operations, including kitchen activities, meal service, facility management, and compliance with all health and safety regulations. Implement and maintain policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure efficient and responsible operations. Ensure ESSK's resources, equipment, and facilities are properly maintained and utilized. Community Collaboration & Engagement Build and sustain strong relationships with community partners, donors, volunteers, local agencies, and neighborhood stakeholders. Represent ESSK in community initiatives, collaborative efforts, and public events. Demonstrate cultural awareness and practical understanding of the needs, challenges, and strengths of Saginaw's residents. Financial Stewardship & Administration Manage ESSK's budget, financial reporting, and resource allocation in collaboration with the Board of Directors. Ensure responsible stewardship of donations, grants, and organizational assets. Oversee administrative systems, recordkeeping, compliance, and reporting requirements. Staff & Volunteer Leadership Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and volunteers. Foster a positive, inclusive, and mission‑driven workplace culture. Ensure all team members adhere to ESSK policies, safety standards, and ethical guidelines. Governance‑Required as in Section Article VIII of Bylaws Section 1. Role The Executive Director ("ED") is the chief staff officer responsible for daily operations and implementation of Board policies. Section 2. Hiring & Supervision The ED is hired, evaluated, and supervised by the Executive Committee. Section 3. Authority Limits The ED may not: Serve as a voting member of the Board. Approve expenditures or spending beyond Board‑approved limits. Enter into contracts without authorization as stated in the Financial Policy. Section 4. Relationship to the Board The ED shall attend Board meetings as a non‑voting participant. Section 5. Staff Oversight The ED shall hire, supervise, and evaluate staff in accordance with Board‑approved policies. Personal Attributes Compassionate, approachable, and community‑minded. Pay:
$45,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year People with a criminal record are encouraged to apply
