JOB DESCRIPTION

Executive Director Position Summary The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and sustainability of AVENUES for Northeast Missouri. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides strategic direction, financial oversight, resource development, staff leadership, and community representation to advance the organization's mission of supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and related crimes. The Executive Director promotes a culture of transparency, collaboration, accountability, and employee well-being while ensuring high-quality services and long-term organizational stability. Essential Responsibilities Leadership & Organizational Management Provide strategic leadership and implement organizational goals established with the Board of Directors. Ensure effective daily operations and program oversight. Foster a positive, supportive, and mission-driven workplace culture. Promote transparency, accountability, and ethical decision-making. Provide trauma-informed leadership and support while remaining calm, professional, and respectful in challenging situations involving staff, survivors, community partners, and stakeholders. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and model behaviors that support the agency's mission, values, and ethical standards. Make objective decisions based on facts, agency policies, organizational needs, and the safety and well-being of survivors, staff, and the agency rather than personal opinions, relationships, or conflicts. Financial Management & Fund Development Oversee agency finances, budgeting, and fiscal management. Ensure compliance with grant requirements and funding regulations. Lead grant writing, fundraising, donor relations, and resource development efforts. Identify and secure new funding opportunities to support organizational growth. Human Resources & Staff Support Recruit, supervise, develop, and retain staff. Encourage employee wellness, professional growth, and work-life balance. Provide supportive leadership while maintaining appropriate accountability and performance standards. Address workplace challenges, burnout, and staff development needs. Community Relations & Advocacy Serve as the primary spokesperson and public representative of AVENUES. Build and maintain relationships with community partners, government agencies, funders, donors, and stakeholders. Promote awareness of agency services and the impact of domestic and sexual violence within the communities served. Compliance & Governance Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, contracts, and grant requirements. Oversee policy development and implementation. Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to support effective governance and strategic planning. Qualifications Preferred Education Bachelor's degree in: Social Work Human Services Nonprofit Management Public Administration Business Administration Psychology Or a related field Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education. Preferred Experience Leadership or management experience in a nonprofit, social service, victim service, healthcare, education, or related organization. Grant writing and fundraising experience. Financial management and budget oversight experience. Staff supervision and team development experience. Public relations, community engagement, or government relations experience. Knowledge of domestic violence, sexual assault, victim services, or trauma-informed practices preferred. Open Until Filled Schedule & Travel The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. AVENUES supports a flexible work environment that recognizes the importance of work-life balance while ensuring the leadership and operational needs of the agency are met. Some evening or weekend availability may be required based on agency needs, community events, meetings, or other Executive Director responsibilities. Regular holiday work is not required. Some travel is required for agency business, including travel throughout AVENUES' service area, meetings, trainings, and community engagement activities. Approved business mileage is reimbursed in accordance with agency policy.
