Job Description
Naturally New York is seeking an entrepreneurial and highly connected Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter of growth and impact. This is a builder role. The Executive Director will serve as the senior leader of Naturally New York and will have overall accountability for the health, growth, relevance, and performance of the organization. The Executive Director reports to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and works closely with a full-time Program Manager, supported by outside contractors as needed. Working with an engaged Board and small team, the Executive Director will translate Naturally New York's mission into a focused strategy and ensure the organization has the community, partnerships, programming, operating capabilities, and financial resources required to deliver against it. The next Executive Director should be a catalyst who creates opportunities that might not otherwise happen. The Executive Director will be expected to deepen Naturally New York's position within the Greater New York natural-products ecosystem, strengthen and expand relationships across the community, and build a more sustainable revenue engine through sponsorships, partnerships, fundraising, membership, and other opportunities. Just as importantly, the Executive Director will ensure Naturally New York continues to deliver meaningful value to the entrepreneurs and leaders it serves. We are looking for someone who combines the relationship-building instincts of a community leader, the commercial mindset of a business developer, and the leadership capabilities required to build a high-impact organization. Given the highly community-oriented nature of the role, the Executive Director is expected to maintain a meaningful in-person presence throughout the New York Tri-State area. The Leadership Mandate Lead Naturally New York Serve as the single accountable leader for Naturally New York and translate an ambitious mission into a focused, sustainable organization. Partner with the Board of Directors to establish the organization's strategic direction, priorities, and annual goals. Lead Naturally New York's team and create clarity around priorities, responsibilities, and accountability. Own overall organizational performance, including financial health, community engagement, programming effectiveness, and operational execution. Build the organizational capabilities, systems, and resources required to support Naturally New York's next stage of growth. Maintain a highly effective partnership with the Board and activate Board members around the organization's most important priorities and opportunities. Drive Revenue, Fundraising & Strategic Partnerships Build a stronger and more diversified financial foundation for Naturally New York. Own the organization's revenue strategy across sponsorships, corporate partnerships, fundraising, membership, events, and other mission-aligned opportunities. Build and manage a strong pipeline of prospective sponsors, partners, donors, and other supporters. Personally develop relationships with high-priority partners and turn those relationships into meaningful, long-term support for Naturally New York. Strengthen existing partnerships and create compelling new ways for companies and individuals to participate in and support the organization. Mobilize the Board, members, and broader network to generate introductions, relationships, and opportunities. Establish greater discipline around revenue goals, pipeline management, renewals, forecasting, and financial sustainability. Build the Community & Elevate Naturally New York Be a visible, credible, and highly engaged leader within New York's natural-products and entrepreneurial ecosystem. Serve as a primary ambassador and spokesperson for Naturally New York. Build meaningful relationships with founders, executives, investors, retailers, service providers, emerging brands, established companies, and other leaders across the ecosystem. Strengthen Naturally New York's position as a trusted convener and connector for the natural, organic, sustainable, health, wellness, and consumer-products communities. Listen closely to the community and continually identify where Naturally New York can provide unique value. Develop collaborations with other Naturally chapters, and complementary organizations that extend the organization's reach and impact. Increase the visibility, influence, membership, and engagement of Naturally New York throughout the Greater New York region and broader industry. Deliver Meaningful Member & Community Value Ensure everything Naturally New York does creates meaningful value for the entrepreneurs, leaders, and companies it serves. Establish programming and community priorities based on Naturally New York's mission and the evolving needs of its members. Provide strategic leadership and support to the team responsible for programming, events, and community engagement, while empowering them to own day-to-day execution. Ensure programming connects members with the relationships, knowledge, resources, and opportunities that help them and their businesses grow. Create stronger connections between programming, membership, partnerships, communications, and revenue generation. Evaluate the organization's initiatives based on participation, member feedback, impact, and financial sustainability. Continually identify new opportunities for Naturally New York to support entrepreneurs and strengthen the broader ecosystem. Manage Finances, Operations & Governance Ensure Naturally New York is well run, financially disciplined, and compliant with its obligations as a 501(c)(6) organization. Own the annual budget in partnership with the Finance & Governance Committee, monitor financial performance and cash position, and adjust resources as conditions change. Oversee the outsourced accounting relationship and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting. Ensure sound financial controls, regulatory compliance, required filings, appropriate insurance coverage, and organizational risk management. Prepare Board and committee materials, agendas, and financial updates and work effectively across Board committees. Oversee the hiring, performance management, and development of staff and contractors and manage key external vendor relationships. Provide oversight of marketing and communications, including the website, newsletter, social channels, and member communications. Who We're Looking For There is no single career path to becoming the right Executive Director for Naturally New York. The successful candidate may come from a nonprofit, entrepreneurial ecosystem, membership organization, consumer brand, industry association, investment community, business-development role, or another highly relationship-driven environment. What matters most is that this person is a builder, connector, and leader who can turn relationships and ideas into action. At Naturally New York's current scale, the Executive Director must be equally comfortable setting strategy and rolling up their sleeves to drive execution. We are particularly interested in candidates who bring: A track record of building organizations, communities, businesses, partnerships, or significant initiatives. Strong relationship-development and business-development instincts, with demonstrated success generating revenue through partnerships, sponsorships, fundraising, membership, or similar channels. The credibility and presence to engage entrepreneurs, CEOs, investors, corporate partners, Board members, and other senior stakeholders. An entrepreneurial mindset and comfort operating in a lean, resource-conscious environment. Strong leadership skills and the ability to empower a small team while creating clear accountability. Financial and business acumen and an understanding of what it takes to build a sustainable organization. Experience working effectively with a Board, investors, senior executives, or other highly engaged stakeholders. Excellent communication skills and the ability to represent Naturally New York compellingly in one-on-one conversations, on stage, and across the broader community. Genuine enthusiasm for entrepreneurship and the natural, organic, sustainable, health, wellness, and consumer-products ecosystem. Qualifications & Experience Must-Haves Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience. 8+ years of progressive professional experience, including meaningful leadership responsibility within a business, nonprofit, membership organization, entrepreneurial ecosystem, consumer brand, investment community, or similarly relationship-driven organization. Demonstrated success building and managing relationships with senior stakeholders, partners, customers, sponsors, donors, or other external constituents. Experience developing partnerships and/or generating revenue through business development, sponsorships, fundraising, membership, or other relationship-driven channels. Proven ability to lead initiatives from strategy through execution and operate effectively in an entrepreneurial, resource-conscious environment. Strong communication skills and executive presence, with the ability to credibly represent Naturally New York with founders, executives, investors, Board members, partners, and the broader community. Demonstrated success in P&L ownership, financial management, and forecasting and accounting processes. Preferred Qualifications Strong preference for candidates who currently reside in the New York Tri-State area and can maintain a consistent in-person presence across Naturally New York events, Board meetings, partner meetings, and community activities. Strong knowledge of and/or established relationships within the Greater New York consumer, retail, natural products, CPG, health and wellness, or entrepreneurial ecosystem. Experience working with or reporting to a Board of Directors, investors, or other highly engaged governance stakeholders. Experience leading or helping scale a nonprofit, membership organization, community, industry association, consumer business, or entrepreneurial organization. Demonstrated experience building sponsorship, membership, fundraising, or partnership programs. Experience managing and developing a small, high-performing team.
