Executive Director Minnesota Academy of Science Saint Paul, MN Job Details Part-time | Full-time $45,000 - $85,000 a year 4 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Qualifications Teamwork Program design Program management Volunteer management Organizational skills Stakeholder relationship building Full Job Description Position Summary The Minnesota Academy of Science (MAS) seeks a visionary and collaborative leader with a passion for STEM education and connecting Minnesotans with STEM opportunities. The Executive Director provides strategic leadership for the organization in partnership with the Board of Directors and staff. The position may be part-time or full-time, with the scope of responsibilities tailored to the experience, skills, availability, and interests of the individual hired, as well as the needs and existing staffing structure of MAS. The role may include a combination of organizational leadership, fundraising, community partnerships, STEM programming, communications, grant writing and management, and day-to-day operations. The balance of these responsibilities will be determined based on the successful candidate and how the position complements existing staff. The Minnesota Academy of Science (MAS). The Minnesota Academy of Science is a 150 year old statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for Minnesotans of all backgrounds to engage in STEM-related learning, inquiry, research, and networking. We serve K-12 and undergraduate students, educators and schools as well as STEM graduates and professionals. Our current programs include the Minnesota State Science and Engineering Fair, Winchell Undergraduate Research Symposium, Statewide Science Bowls, Science Salon, and Fostering Opportunities and Relationships in STEM Education (FORSE). Key Responsibilities Leadership & Organizational Development
  • Work with the Board to advance MAS's mission, vision, strategic priorities, and long-term sustainability.
  • Support fundraising, organizational planning, budgeting, and financial stewardship.
  • Serve as a representative and spokesperson for MAS with community, education, corporate, and STEM partners.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, foundations, schools, businesses, and other stakeholders.
  • Support effective Board engagement, governance, and communication. STEM Programs & Events
  • Contribute to the development, coordination, and delivery of STEM programs, events, and educational opportunities.
  • Depending on the candidate's experience and the organization's staffing needs, responsibilities may include hands-on program development and delivery, event coordination, volunteer management, curriculum or activity development, and participant engagement.
  • Work with educators, STEM professionals, students, businesses, and community partners to strengthen and expand MAS programs.
  • Evaluate and improve programs based on participant and partner feedback. Operations & Administration
  • Depending on the candidate and existing staff structure, responsibilities may include day-to-day organizational operations, staff or contractor supervision, communications, administrative systems, contracts, and other organizational needs.
  • Ensure appropriate compliance with organizational policies, bylaws, contracts, and applicable regulations.
  • Work with the Board and outside professionals as appropriate on financial and administrative matters.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will bring a combination of leadership, STEM, nonprofit, education, programming, and/or community engagement experience. We are looking for someone who is: Passionate about STEM education and expanding access to STEM opportunities. An effective communicator and relationship builder. Comfortable working both strategically and hands-on. Organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities. Experienced in program development, nonprofit leadership, fundraising, partnerships, or a related area. Comfortable working in a small organization where responsibilities may evolve based on organizational needs. Position & Compensation This position may be part-time or full-time, please indicate whether you are open to either part-time, full-time or both in your cover letter . Responsibilities, hours, and compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience and the scope of the position developed in collaboration with existing MAS staff and the Board. Base salary band for full-time-equivalent compensation: $65,000-$80,000 annually.
Anticipated part-time-equivalent compensation:
$45,000-$60,000 with actual compensation adjusted for agreed part-time work time, qualifications, and responsibilities. A discretionary bonus is available once per year during the annual evaluation by the Board. Benefits include a comprehensive health and dental plan, and paid vacation and sick time. Benefits will vary based on employment status and hours worked. MAS offers a flexible hybrid work environment. Some in-person meetings, programs, and events, including occasional evenings or weekends, may be required.
