Job Description

Position Overview Executive Director provides leadership and management to ensure the organization fulfills its mission. This role requires broad oversight of operations, staff supervision, program continuity, financial accountability, and community engagement. The Executive Director partners closely with the Board of Directors to sustain organizational health and prepare for the onboarding of permanent leadership. Executive Director will work closely with the faculty, staff, and contractors to strengthen infrastructure and position the Bowen Center for long-term success. The Bowen Center's work is grounded in Bowen Family Systems Theory, and this role requires a leader who can operate effectively within that framework and culture. The Executive Director's performance will be evaluated by the Board of Directors annually. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Administration Provide mission-aligned leadership to the organization. Principal decision maker on key areas of management and programming. Lead, manage, support, and collaborate with staff, faculty and the Board of Directors ensuring clear communication and positive work environment. Build operational and technical continuity and institutional memory across staffing, systems, and annual workflows. Implement Board policies and maintain continuity of strategic plan activities. Oversee daily operations and maintain efficient, effective service delivery. Program Development & Implementation Ensure the continuity and quality of educational programs grounded in Bowen theory. Maintain program schedules, communications, and promotional materials. Monitor program outcomes and provide updates to the Board. Partner effectively with the Bowen Center's volunteer faculty who lead conferences training programs, and educational offerings. Support the Center's mix of online, hybrid, and in-person programming. Foster faculty development and support efforts to attract and cultivate emerging and local faculty Financial Management Efficiently manage the operating budget in collaboration with the Treasurer/Finance Committee. Oversee reporting, compliance, forecasting, and financial accountability. Maintain donor and funder relationships; ensure timely reporting obligations. Develop and implement strategy for fundraising, including grant opportunities. Community Relations & Outreach Represent the organization with funders, partners, alumni, and community stakeholders. Maintain relationships with collaborating organizations and networks. Support the organization's in-person presence in the District, Maryland, and Virginia area. Board Relations & Governance Serve as primary liaison between faculty and the Board. Provide regular updates on finances, operations, and program status, including staffing and organizational continuity. Support Board committees. Partner effectively with the Board on organizational priorities. Organizational Capacity Building Document systems, policies, and processes for continuity. Identify organizational strengths, gaps, and opportunities for improvement. Ensures the staffing model supports a sustainable team structure. Support succession planning and leadership continuity for the organization over time. Qualifications At least a master's degree in mental health, family therapy, organizational development, or related field Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Bowen Family Systems Theory. Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit management or leadership preferred. Previous experience in effective fiscal management, forecasting, fundraising, and grant management and grant writing. Effective interpersonal and communication abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and relevant digital tools. Demonstrated ability to lead collaboratively with boards, staff, faculty, and contractors Personal Qualities Grounded in Bowen theory for a thinking approach to leadership and problem-solving. Ability to manage organizational and personal anxiety during periods of change. Flexible, adaptive, and collaborative leadership style. Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth. Ability to build trust across board, faculty, and staff relationships. Ability to balance operational execution with longer-term organizational development. Additional Considerations Candidates may maintain private practice or consulting work alongside the role, provided, the responsibilities of the position and the 35-hour weekly commitment are fully met.

Pay:
$90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year Application Question(s): Can you commit to being in the office two days a week? Are you willing to travel nationally and internationally to represent the center? The salary range is $92K-$115K. If offered, would you accept within that range?
