The Union County Humane Society (UCHS), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization, is seeking an experienced, hands-on leader to serve as Executive Director . The Executive Director is responsible for the overall day-to-day management of the shelter and provides leadership to staff and volunteers while ensuring excellent animal care, sound financial management, regulatory compliance, and strong relationships with donors and the community. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors. Key Responsibilities Lead daily shelter operations and animal care programs Hire, supervise, train, and develop staff and volunteers Ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations, licensing, safety standards, and organizational policies Oversee budgeting, expenditures, recordkeeping, and financial controls in coordination with the Board and accounting professionals Work collaboratively with the shelter's Veterinarian of Record and other professional service providers Support fundraising, donor relations, grants, community outreach, and public relations Maintain effective relationships with community partners and government officials Provide regular operational and financial reporting to the Board of Directors Ideal Candidate We are looking for a strong manager who can lead both people and operations . Animal shelter or animal welfare experience is required. Candidates must demonstrate experience in staff management, nonprofit or business operations, budgeting and financial oversight, regulatory compliance, and community relations. Strong communication, organizational, decision-making, and technology skills are essential.
