Job Opening for Executive Director Herndon-Reston FISH Herndon-Reston FISH, Inc. (HRFISH) is seeking to fill the full-time position of Executive Director to work on-site at its Reston, VA office. HRFISH is a volunteer, non-sectarian, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping individuals and families in Herndon and Reston make up financial shortfalls brought about by sudden emergencies. Each year, HRFISH helps thousands of low-income families and individuals in all demographic categories by providing financial assistance to pay for rent and utilities, thus giving families time to rebound from sudden emergencies and return to financial stability. In instances where meeting the cost of medical items, prescriptions, or automotive repairs pose threats to financial stability, HRFISH also offers financial help. HRFISH also distributes food gift cards to help families purchase groceries. HRFISH operates under the direction of a volunteer Board of Directors. Its emergency assistance program is supported by Fairfax County grants; contributions from individuals, churches, foundations, and businesses; and sales from the Bargain Loft, its thrift store located in Herndon, VA. Community Members are referred to HRFISH by Fairfax County social workers and other community-based organizations. HRFISH has a small paid staff (three full-time and four part-time) supported by a cadre of dedicated volunteers.
JOB SUMMARY
The Executive Director works in coordination with and under the guidance of the Board of Directors. The Board sets policy; the Executive Director determines how best to implement those policies. It is important to understand, however, that the board is a working board, and members are heavily involved in the activities of the organization such as budget preparation, grant writing, preparation of the annual report, upkeep of the website, and planning for the annual

fundraising gala.
The Executive Director will:
Be responsible for the overall daily operation of HRFISH. Oversee HRFISH's primary activities: the distribution of emergency assistance, the operation of the Bargain Loft, and a variety of fundraising activities. Promote awareness of HRFISH throughout the community.
HRFISH OPERATIONS
With the President of the Board of Directors, bring policy questions before the various Board committees for consideration by the Executive Committee and, ultimately, the full Board. Support and participate in the deliberations of the Board committees, standing and ad hoc. Supervise all full-time paid staff and other temporary staff as needed. Assist in the recruitment of volunteers (Assistance Volunteers, Bargain Loft Volunteers, and volunteers for the HRFISH annual fundraiser, the

). Represent HRFISH at Herndon-Reston community events to raise awareness of its programs, increase donations, and enlist new volunteers.
FUNDRAISING
Identify grant opportunities, prepare and submit applications, and develop new sources of revenue. Solicit donations and sponsorships from businesses, foundations, and individuals.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
Serve as office and business manager with the support of the Finance Manager and the Treasurer. Oversee preparation of the annual report, promotional materials, and Board meeting documents. Maintain current donor and volunteer records and ensure that contributors receive thank-you letters. Review and approve external communications and manage relationships with outside vendors. SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary commensurate with knowledge and experience, in the range of mid $60,000s to mid $70,000s. Three weeks of vacation/annual leave. Two weeks of individual/family sick leave.
