Job Description

This is not a normal job post. We're looking for someone who gets fired up by broken processes and can't stand watching good people waste time on slow, manual, over-complicated work. Acme Machine & Welding (Punxsutawney) and ALKAB Machine & Welding (New Kensington) are two high-mix, low-volume powerhouses in Western Pennsylvania. We machine, weld, and fabricate some of the biggest, toughest parts in heavy industry — large horizontal and vertical boring mills, massive lathes, complex heavy weldments, precision fabrication, electromechanical assemblies, deployable Millwright service, and aftermarket Manitowoc crane/dragline parts. We've been doing this for generations, and we're not slowing down. Right now our estimating team is stacked with experienced professionals who know how to price hard jobs. But our RFQ process is too slow, too manual, and too tangled up with supply-chain work. Quotes take longer than they should. Outside processing is a scramble. Pricing data doesn't flow cleanly. And good opportunities get held up because the system isn't built for speed. That's where you come in. Phase 1 - Accelerate Estimating & RFQ (Right Now) You will jump into the estimating team and attack the RFQ-to-quote process with zero patience for waste. Map it. Simplify it. Get quotes out faster without sacrificing accuracy. Turn a bottleneck into a competitive advantage. Work side-by-side with strong technical estimators and help them win with less noise and complication so they can do more of the high-value work they're great at. Phase 2 - Own Supply Chain Processes (Once Phase 1 is Rocking) When estimating is humming, you expand your ownership into the supply-chain functions that currently live inside estimating: Outside processing Building a real qualified supplier network Automating pricing feeds from supply chain straight into estimating inside ECI M1 Creating clear ownership, standard work, and metrics so nothing falls through the cracks. You will be the person who draws the line between estimating and supply chain and makes both sides faster, cleaner, and more powerful. Who This Role Is For You're the kind of person who: Gets genuinely excited about process maps, automation, and killing unnecessary steps Has a strong bias for action and hates watching capable people drown in inefficiency Can walk into a traditional manufacturing environment and earn respect by delivering results that make the next day an easier day. Sees ECI M1 (or any ERP) as a tool to be bent to the business's will, not the other way around Wants real ownership and visible impact — not another "continuous improvement" role. If you've ever looked at a messy RFQ process or a chaotic outside-processing system and thought "I could fix this," this is your chance to prove it on real work for real industrial customers. The Opportunity This is a high-visibility role with a clear path: accelerate estimating first, then take supply chain to the next level. You will work across both our Punxsutawney and New Kensington facilities in the Greater Pittsburgh region. The problems are real. The impact will be obvious. And the people you'll work with are the real deal. We're not looking for someone who needs a perfect, already-optimized environment. We're looking for the person who builds it. If that sounds like you, we want to talk. Acme Machine & Welding | ALKAB Machine & Welding Western Pennsylvania - Hybrid Quality. Passion. Commitment. — and now, serious process velocity. Apply if you're ready to make the system move as hard as the machines we run.
