Chief Operating Officer / Operations Management About Preferred Waste Solution Preferred Waste Solution (PWS) is a growing sanitation and waste management company committed to delivering reliable, professional, and high-quality solid waste collection services. As we expand our operations in Selma, Alabama, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Operations Supervisor to lead our field operations, oversee personnel and equipment, and ensure our customers receive exceptional service. We are looking for a hands-on leader who understands the demands of solid waste management and can help build a safe, efficient, and accountable operations team. Position Summary The Operations Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of Preferred Waste Solution's solid waste collection services in Selma, Alabama. This position is responsible for supervising personnel, coordinating collection routes, managing equipment, supporting drivers and operators, and ensuring safe, efficient, and timely service. The ideal candidate will have solid waste industry experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage people and equipment in a fast-paced environment. The Operations Supervisor must be willing to work in the field, respond to operational challenges, and lead by example. A valid Class B CDL or greater is required. Key Responsibilities Personnel Management & Supervision Supervise, coordinate, and oversee daily activities of drivers, solid waste equipment operators, and field personnel. Assign routes, equipment, and daily responsibilities to employees. Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, performance, and adherence to company policies. Conduct pre-shift meetings and communicate daily operational expectations. Train, coach, and develop employees to improve productivity, safety, and customer service. Address employee performance concerns and report disciplinary matters to management. Ensure adequate staffing and assist with coverage when needed. Promote teamwork, accountability, and a professional work environment. Equipment & Fleet Management Oversee the safe and efficient operation of rear-loader refuse collection trucks, light-duty trucks, trailers, and other solid waste equipment. Conduct or ensure completion of daily vehicle and equipment inspections. Monitor equipment condition and report mechanical issues promptly. Coordinate preventative maintenance, repairs, and equipment availability with management and maintenance personnel. Ensure trucks and equipment are clean, properly maintained, and ready for daily operations. Monitor fuel usage, equipment performance, and operational efficiency. Ensure employees operate equipment according to company safety procedures and manufacturer guidelines. Solid Waste Collection Operations Coordinate daily residential and commercial waste collection operations. Ensure routes are completed safely, efficiently, and according to schedule. Monitor GPS routes and collection progress. Respond to missed pickups, route delays, service concerns, and operational issues. Assist with route planning, scheduling, and daily deployment of personnel and equipment. Ensure waste is collected, transported, and disposed of at designated facilities. Maintain communication with drivers and field personnel throughout the workday. Support the successful launch and continued growth of PWS operations in Selma. Safety & Compliance Enforce all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements. Conduct and support daily safety meetings and equipment inspections. Promote safe driving practices, proper lifting techniques, and hazard awareness. Ensure employees follow applicable traffic, workplace, and solid waste safety requirements. Report accidents, injuries, property damage, and safety violations promptly. Investigate operational incidents and assist with corrective action. Maintain a safe working environment for employees, customers, and the public. Customer Service & Reporting Respond professionally to customer service issues and collection concerns. Work with the customer service team to resolve missed pickups and service complaints. Ensure collection crews represent Preferred Waste Solution professionally. Maintain daily operational reports, employee records, equipment reports, and incident documentation. Provide management with updates regarding staffing, route performance, equipment needs, and operational challenges. Assist with improving service quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction. Minimum Qualifications Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or greater required. High school diploma or GED equivalent. Minimum of 3 years of experience in solid waste collection, fleet operations, transportation, construction, or a related field. Prior supervisory or team leadership experience. Experience operating or supervising heavy trucks, rear-loader refuse trucks, or similar equipment. Knowledge of vehicle safety inspections, fleet maintenance, and daily equipment operations. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Ability to lift, bend, walk, and perform physical duties associated with solid waste operations. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Ability to pass applicable background and employment screening requirements. Preferred Qualifications Class A CDL preferred. Previous experience as a Solid Waste Supervisor, Route Supervisor, Fleet Supervisor, Lead Driver, or Operations Manager. Experience operating rear-loader packer trucks, box trucks, stake-body trucks, trailers, or other refuse collection equipment. Experience with GPS route tracking and fleet management systems. Knowledge of residential and commercial waste collection procedures. Experience managing employees, scheduling routes, and monitoring fleet performance. Strong knowledge of workplace safety and DOT-related requirements. Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong leadership and team management skills. Ability to oversee personnel and equipment effectively. Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced operational environment. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to lead by example and maintain professionalism at all times. Physical & Work Environment This position is primarily field-based and requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions. The Operations Supervisor may be required to walk, stand, bend, climb, lift, and assist with solid waste collection operations as needed. The position may require early morning starts, extended hours, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs and collection schedules.
Compensation & Benefits Starting Salary:
