Job Description
Under general supervision, directs others and assists in the performance of skilled and semi-skilled mechanical and electrical work in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of treatment facilities, pumping equipment, pump buildings and reservoirs; and performs other duties as assigned. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of water plants and related equipment both by direct control and through the use of telemetry equipment. Various readings, logs, reports and tests for effective pumping operation are kept or made by the Production Supervisor with particular emphasis on accuracy. The System Operations Supervisor will be responsible for the supervision of a systems operation and maintenance team, and as such will be responsible for the consistent and standardized operation of all water production and treatment facilities. Supervises and assists subordinates in the performance of semi-skilled mechanical and electrical work involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of pumping equipment including pumps, valves, meters, gauges and other electrical water pumping equipment; responsible for inspections and detailed reports of performance and condition of pumping and reservoir facilities as well as maintaining databases of pump maintenance, water production, well statistics, motor performance, etc. The System Operations Supervisor shall have a thorough knowledge of basic chlorination practices, a good working knowledge of the ion-exchange nitrate removal process, hydraulics and water quality. May operate a loader, backhoe, boom truck, and similar equipment; manage the maintenance and repair of reservoirs and pump house buildings. The position shall be familiar with related safety regulations; direct emergency changes of equipment in event of mechanical failures; coordinate sampling from wells, reservoirs and private property outlets for chemical analysis; provide training to subordinate personnel. Responds to emergency calls and may be subject to "Standby Duty". Shift assigned may be other than normal five day week. As a supervisory position, the System Operations Supervisor shall have good communication and management skills, and the ability to evaluate and work effectively with subordinates. Possession of a valid State Grade 3 Water Treatment Plant Operator's certificate.
