Job Description The Director of Operations is a senior leadership role responsible for the day-to-day performance of the hotel's front-of-house operations, including the front desk, reservations, night audit, guest transportation, and housekeeping coordination. This person is both a hands-on operator and a people leader — directly supervising guest-facing teams, driving revenue maximization at the front desk, maintaining financial controls, and ensuring every guest interaction meets Sonesta brand standards. The Director of Operations works closely with the General Manager on strategic planning, reporting, and cross-departmental execution, and serves as manager-on-duty in the GM's absence. This is a role for someone who leads by example, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and takes genuine ownership of both the guest experience and the hotel's operational results. Job Responsibilities Direct all front desk, reservations, night audit, telephone, and guest transportation operations to ensure consistently high levels of guest service and strict adherence to financial controls Lead, develop, and retain a high-performing team of guest service agents, night auditors, reservations agents, and van drivers through recruiting, training, scheduling, coaching, and formal performance reviews Drive room revenue maximization through active management of rate strategy, front desk upsell practices, and reservation accuracy across all systems Monitor departmental financial performance, maintain expense budgets, assist with accounts receivable and daily bank deposits, and report revenue statistics to the General Manager Participate actively in sales efforts including site tours, group rooming list coordination, sales calls, trade shows, and special promotion activities alongside the sales team Serve on the hotel Safety and Security Committee, enforce emergency and security procedures, conduct lobby and public area inspections, and investigate departmental accidents and losses Perform as hotel manager-on-duty on evenings and weekends as assigned, making operational decisions and representing hotel leadership to guests and staff Job Qualifications High school diploma required; some college or equivalent formal education preferred, with emphasis in business, hospitality, or operations management Prior hotel front desk experience required; supervisory or management experience in a hotel operations role strongly preferred Solid understanding of front office financials including rate management, P&L basics, accounts receivable, and reporting Strong leadership and team development skills with the ability to recruit, train, motivate, and hold a team accountable across multiple shifts Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including comfort presenting to ownership and executive stakeholders Proficiency with hotel PMS systems, Microsoft Office (particularly Excel for reporting and forecasting), and general front office technology Working knowledge of OSHA, ADA, fair employment laws, and hotel safety and security regulations Valid driver's license with a clean record; ability to operate the hotel vehicle and work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
