Full Job Description Job Summary:
The Authorization Lead supports the Revenue Management Supervisor in coordinating the daily operations of the Authorization team. This role functions as a working lead who assists with workflow oversight, staff support, and scheduling operations while ensuring efficient patient access to diagnostic and procedure services. The lead helps manage day-to-day coverage, provides guidance to staff, supports training and onboarding, and assists with urgent authorization needs and patient escalations. The position also collaborates with leadership to improve authorization efficiency, maintain compliance, and promote a high level of customer service.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Operational Support Serve as a working lead and provide support to authorization staff during daily operations. Assist the Revenue Management Supervisor with planning, organizing, and overseeing the work of the Authorization team. Provide leadership coverage when the supervisor is unavailable. Manage day-to-day workflow, including lunch coverage and schedule adjustments. Assist in monitoring department performance, access, and scheduling efficiency. Authorizations Support staff with obtaining authorizations for out patient diagnostic testing and procedures in hospitals Coordinate urgent issues to be addressed with appropriate staff Support denials research related to authorizations Assist with patient escalations and resolve concerns. Training & Staff Development Assist with onboarding and orientation of new staff. Provide ongoing training, mentoring support and cross train the team. Document via Authorization Procedures Manual. Serve as a resource for team members regarding processes, portal and system use. Collaboration & Communication Communicate effectively with physicians, diagnostic departments, leadership, scheduling staff and teams within Revenue Management Partner with the Revenue Management Supervisor and SDCA leadership to support operational needs and patient service initiatives. Promote team building within and outside the core team. Compliance & Professional Standards Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA, OSHA, and organizational policies and procedures. Protect patient confidentiality at all times. Represent the practice in a professional and positive manner with patients, providers, and staff. Additional Responsibilities Assist with clerical or operational duties as requested by department leadership Assist the Supervisor with reporting and administrative tasks as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned.
