Director of Operations Job Description The Director of Operations will serve as the site manager for a sod farm, overseeing day-to-day operations and ensuring efficient, high-quality production. This role requires a strong background in agriculture and turf, proven managerial experience, and the ability to coordinate multiple departments, including the mechanic shop and purchasing. The ideal candidate will combine operational leadership with a focus on customer service and financial performance. Responsibilities Manage all daily operations of the sod farm, ensuring production goals and quality standards are consistently met. Oversee all farm departments, including field operations, production teams, and the mechanic shop, to maintain smooth and efficient workflows. Lead, coach, and support farm staff, promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. Coordinate maintenance and repair of farm equipment through the mechanic shop to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Handle purchasing of supplies, materials, and equipment, negotiating with vendors and maintaining appropriate inventory levels. Monitor and manage the farm's Profit and Loss statement, analyzing financial performance and identifying opportunities to improve profitability. Collaborate with customer support and customer service functions to ensure a positive experience for clients and resolve issues promptly. Implement and enforce operational procedures and best practices for farming and turf management. Ensure compliance with relevant agricultural standards, safety guidelines, and internal policies. Communicate clearly with internal teams and external partners to align on priorities, schedules, and operational needs. Essential Skills Demonstrated experience managing farm operations or similar agricultural environments. Strong background in agriculture and turf management, with practical knowledge of farming practices. Proven managerial and leadership experience overseeing multiple departments or teams. Ability to understand and manage a Profit and Loss statement and use financial data to guide operational decisions. Hands-on familiarity with farm equipment and related maintenance needs. Strong customer support and customer service orientation, with the ability to address client needs effectively. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills to manage complex, multi-department operations. Clear and professional communication skills, both verbal and written. Additional Skills & Qualifications Ability to communicate in Spanish is optional but highly beneficial for working with diverse teams and customers. Experience in purchasing and vendor management within an agricultural or production environment. Comfort working in a fast-paced, outdoor, and operationally intensive setting.
