INTRODUCTION
This is highly skilled supervisory electrical maintenance work.NATURE OF WORK
An employee in this class is responsible for performing assignments of more than average difficulty involving operations and maintenance of city and county bridges. Tasks require the employee to exercise reasonable initiative and independent judgment when installing, modifying or repairing various items of electrical equipment, as well as ensuring responsibility for controlling electrical emergencies. In addition, the employee is required to work with high voltage equipment. The employee supervises lower level employees. Under general supervision, the employee receives instruction orally and in writing with work being reviewed while in progress and upon completion through observation, conferences, and reports submitted.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Supervises electrical and other work necessary to the operations and maintenance of bridges; installs, maintains, modifies, and repairs electrical fixtures and equipment including power appliances, overhead circuits, underground conduits, motors, relays, switches, and control boxes up to and including 13,200V application and DC voltages; installs wall outlets and connects motors, transformers, and motor control circuitry. Detects causes of electrical failures; interprets and ensures compliance with electrical codes; calculates line leads to determine wire and equipment size and capacity; prepares sketches for electrical layouts and installation.Oversees:
the lubrication, preventive maintenance and periodic maintenance/adjustments to bridge operating systems; installation of construction signs and barricades in order to re-route traffic during closing of bridges; operation of light automotive equipment pick-up truck/bridge float; operation of portable pumps; maintenance and repair of generators (back-up power for bridges). Provides PLC training for bridge operators; coordinates yearly federal inspections of bridges; coordinates diving inspections every two years; contacts Coast Guard regarding bridge closings. Consults with engineers, contractors and consultants concerning bridge retro-fittings and rehab; consults with county personnel on moveable bridges. Installs solid state/electro-mechanical flashers to ensure proper functioning. Checks safety equipment to ensure operations and compliance with safety regulations. Performs related work as required.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Working knowledge of: the standard tools, methods, materials, and practices of the electrical trade; occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions, to include work with high voltages; municipal and national electrical codes.Ability to:
interpret and work from technical sketches and blueprints; locate, define, and repair defects in electrical facilities and equipment; plan, layout, install, alter, repair, and maintain a variety of electrical systems and equipment, some of which are relatively complex; understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions, establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; perform work requiring physical strength.Skill in:
use and care of standard tools, equipment, and testing devices of the electrical trade.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Mostly sedentary, indoors, occasional outdoors and lifting, requires frequent use of computer, typing and viewing a monitor.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school, supplemented by college level course work preferred with at least (Seven) 7 years in electrical, engineering and or maintenance, repair and troubleshooting experience. (six) 6 months of supervisor or Lead experience preferred. or An equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job related competencies noted above.LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS
Possession of a valid driver's license.EXAMINATION
