With a staff of 3 social workers and 2.5 support staff, Community Ministries functions as a mid-size social services non-profit in the heart of midtown Atlanta. The annual budget is $615,000 and we serve 1,200 unique individuals per year. Key services we offer our clients include case management services, in-state and out-of-state birth certificates, food stamps application, ID vouchers, clothing closet, food and meal ministry, affordable food market, women's transformation center, Redemption after Prison program, showers, mail, barber shop, and respite space. We seek a Director of Operations to work with a leadership team comprised Executive Director of Community Ministries (a LCSW responsible for service delivery to clients) to ensure operational leadership for Community Ministries. Key tasks will include operational optimization through thoughtful and flexible deployment of staff, facility, volunteer, and partner resources; strategic planning; budgeting and financial oversight; training and managing volunteers; oversight of Salesforce and grant writing to augment the operational budget. Essential Tasks The primary focus of the Director of Operations is operational optimization through thoughtful and flexible deployment of staff, facility, volunteer, and partner resources. The Operations Director will ensure the smooth daily operations of Community Ministries to allow the service staff to focus on service delivery. The Operations Director will develop, implement, and monitor day-to-day operational systems to support the achievement of Community Ministries' goals. In these day-to day operations, the Director must deploy staff and volunteer resources, obtain, and manage the resources needed to execute services, and schedule building use. The operations director is a facilitator to ensure Community Ministries meets key metrics on time and within budget.
Other responsibilities will include:
Strategic Planning Collaborate with other staff and the Community Ministries Council, a ministry leadership team of ordained and lay church members, to enact and expand the vision for Community Ministries. Plan and implement processes that ensure that the day-to-day operations of Community Ministries that fits into the strategic plan, stay on course with key objectives, and serve the overall goals of Community Ministries. Ensure the organization uses resources as efficiently as possible to serve as many clients as possible. Budgeting and Financial Oversight Present an annual budget to the Session every November in collaboration with Council and the Executive Director. Oversee revenue and expenditures and report monthly budget figures to the Executive Director. Volunteer Management Adequately staff daily/weekly volunteer positions. Promote the work of Community Ministries to the congregation and larger community with the goal of recruiting new volunteers and benefactors. Interview potential volunteers and match their talents with organizational needs. Train, develop, build, and maintain positive, long-term relationships with volunteers. Process, organize, and maintain volunteer paperwork including acknowledgement of volunteer handbook. Ensure volunteer compliance with the rules and conventions of Community Ministries. Facilitate good communication with, and between, volunteers. Oversee volunteer recognition when and where appropriate. Partner and Benefactor Relationships Alongside the Executive Director of Community Ministries Maintain healthy communication between partner organizations and financial supporters of Community Ministries focused on growing and deepening the relationships for mutual benefit. Write grants to expand the budget of Community Ministries, and administer those grants as awarded. Qualifications and Characteristics 2 - 3 years' experience in an operations-focused role. A bachelor's degree is required. A master's degree preferred. Salesforce CRM experience - certification preferred Experience in a non-profit and/or social service setting would be beneficial. Excellent soft skills required, including clear communication, attention to detail, planning and follow-through. The Director of Operations must practice hospitality and embrace plurality and be comfortable working with diverse populations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, social media, database management, and volunteer management software, (e.g., Sign-Up Genius, Salesforce) The ideal candidate will be a passionate and faithful follower of Jesus Christ who shares the Gospel in both word and deed, and who thinks theologically, ministers relationally, and lives missionally.
