Job Description

STS Metals is a unified organization composed of five businesses working together to deliver high-quality titanium, stainless and alloy steel and nickel products. We proudly serve the aerospace, medical, industrial, and space industries with a commitment to innovation, manufacturing excellence, and superior customer service. Sierra Sheet & Plate is currently looking for a Director- Operations for our Covington, GA location, This role is responsible for all internal manufacturing operations. This includes managing supervisors and a production staff in a safe manor to meet customer delivery, product quality, and production goals for a well-established, financially sound, titanium producer. The candidate must understand how to schedule both people and equipment and manage independent contractors. The position is classified as full-time, Exempt. On a workload basis this position regularly requires long hours and occasional weekend work. Job duties and responsibilities are below and include but are not limited to working collectively with the General Manager in overseeing and streamlining Production, Maintenance and Engineering to achieve company goals. This must be done in a thoughtful and safe manner, to yield a quality product and a compliant safe environment. Enforce daily/weekly/monthly production schedule to support budget objectives. Establish developmental goals and mentor supervisors and crew leaders. Managing the safety, quality, and cost performance of all internal manufacturing operations to meet or exceed company objectives. Planning, scheduling, coordinating manufacturing operations with executive management and area supervisors. Maintain >90% schedule adherence in all internal work centers . Working with Director of Engineering & Maintenance, maintaining an up-time of >85% on all critical assets. Address situations with urgency to get resolution and maintain production flow and equipment uptime. Reporting and communication of safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance against. company goals to executive management and general workforce. Completes production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems; reporting results of the processing flow on shift production summaries. Provides manufacturing information by compiling, initiating, sorting, and analyzing production performance records and data, answering questions and responding to requests. Partner with the management team to meet operational objectives and streamline efficiencies in safety and plant performance measures. Accomplishes manufacturing staff results by communicating job expectations; learning and training, reviewing performance, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures. Identify labor needs for new equipment/installation/etc. to ensure production goal realization and constant monitoring of the production staffing headcount and levels of competency to support business conditions, current and forecasted. Maintain staff by training employees, developing personal growth opportunities. Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills. Relentlessly pursuing through data driven metrics improvements to product throughput. Maintains workflow by monitoring steps of the process; setting processing variables; observing control points and equipment; monitoring personnel and resources; studying methods; implementing cost reductions; developing reporting procedures and systems. Bridges financial information to operations and tracks and measures costs to budget and forecast. Work with HR on safety initiatives, both deployment and adherence; maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards. Resolve personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. 4- Year bachelor's degree in engineering, operations management, or a related field. 10 years of manufacturing leadership experience, metals or aerospace industries preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Knowledgeable in all facets of operations management in the manufacturing environment including sales, safety, environmental, quality systems, and overall metal operations. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Must possess and be able to apply a broad knowledge of planning principles, policies, and practices. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Ability to interact with internal and external individuals and groups to achieve goals through negotiation, motivation, problem-solving and feedback. Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations. Lean manufacturing concepts. Six sigma certification is a plus. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
