Job Description

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer About the Company Atomic-6 manufactures advanced composites for space, air, sea, and ground systems. We exist to put high-performance composites into extreme environments faster than conventional processes allow—higher fiber content, lower voids, shorter cycles, hardware that is lighter and stronger than the standard. Come build what must survive ocean to orbit and see your work perform in the field. Role and Responsibilities The Director of Technical Operations leads the shared technical and operating-systems functions that both business units use. The role manages a multi-functional team that includes the IT Manager, Principal Materials Engineers, the Principal Process Engineers, and technicians assigned to special projects. The Accounting Manager reports to the COO and partners with this organization on job cost, inventory, and MRP data. Business-unit Vice Presidents own customer delivery and unit P&L. This Director owns the methods, systems, materials science, and process capability those units depend on. This is not an operational-technology (OT/ICS) plant-controls role and is not a plant manager role.
Primary duties include:
  • Lead, set priorities for, and develop the IT Manager, Principal Materials Engineers, Principal Process Engineers, and special-project technicians.
  • Translate COO and business-unit demand into a single technical-operations agenda: what gets staffed, in what order, and to what standard.
  • Own process capability for Atomic-6 composite processes: yield, cycle time, repeatability, and scale-up from development into production, through the Principal Process Engineer and assigned technicians.
  • Own materials technical authority through the
Principal Materials Engineers:
allowables, process windows, material specifications, and resolution of materials issues that stop or risk hardware.
  • Own information systems through the
IT Manager:
Azure, Microsoft 365 GCC High, identity, plant networks, endpoints, and the network path to process equipment. Automation engineers remain responsible for the process equipment itself.
  • Partner with the Accounting Manager (who reports to the COO) so job cost, WIP, inventory, and MRP financial reports match the process and materials reality on the floor.
  • Assign special-project technicians to plant or program work; protect project throughput against ad-hoc pull from the line.
  • Resolve conflicts among systems, process, and materials when those functions disagree; escalate only what changes company strategy or unit P&L commitments.
  • Build hiring, vendor, and capital recommendations for the functions in this organization and execute what the COO approves.
  • Travel to Kennesaw as required to lead engineers and technicians based there and to see process and systems work on the floor.
  • Protect export-controlled technical data and CUI in the systems and work products this organization runs. Minimum Qualifications The following are the minimum qualifications required for eligibility for this role.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, materials science, manufacturing, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years in manufacturing or hardware development, including composites, aerospace, defense, or similarly regulated production.
  • 5+ years leading mixed technical teams (engineering plus at least one of: operations systems, IT, or quality).
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities across functions that do not share a single professional language (for example process engineering, materials, and IT).
  • Working literacy in manufacturing systems (MRP/ERP job cost, inventory, WIP) sufficient to use the monthly package and to partner with the Accounting Manager.
  • Working literacy in information systems sufficient to supervise an IT Manager running Azure / Microsoft 365 GCC High and plant networks. The Director is not the hands-on administrator.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a small, dynamic team environment with minimal oversight.
  • Eligibility to access technology subject to U.S. export controls (EAR/ITAR); U.S. person status as defined in applicable regulations. Preferred Skills and Experience The following are used as discriminators for candidates that exceed the basic qualifications above.
  • Advanced degree in engineering, materials, or manufacturing.
  • Direct composites process experience (out-of-autoclave, autoclave, infusion, or similar) or materials allowables work.
  • Experience standing up or supervising a GCC High or CUI environment, or
CMMC / NIST SP 800-171
programs.
  • Experience in a multi-site manufacturing company with distinct product lines or business units.
  • Prior ownership of a shared technical service that sold capacity into P&L-owning business units.
  • P&L or cost-center ownership that included technical staff and operating-expense functions.
Additional Requirements Ability to work flexible hours on-site at Kennesaw to support production and systems incidents. Regular travel to the Wildlight, Florida plant is required. After-hours availability is required when process, materials, or systems work stops the plants. Compensation and Benefits Compensation will vary based on demonstrated proficiency in skills, professional experience, and education.
Benefits include:
  • Flexible working hours
Holidays:
9 federal holidays (New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day)
    Health Insurance:
You are entitled to voluntarily participate in medical, vision, and dental coverage, short- and long-term disability insurance, and life insurance.
      Stock Incentive:
Company stock incentive plan is available.
        Bonuses:
Annual bonuses and performance-based bonuses are discretionary. Eligibility Requirements Atomic-6 is an equal opportunity employer. This position has a requirement to access technology and/or software source code that is subject to U.S. export controls such as EAR and ITAR. Employment is contingent on obtaining any necessary license, and applicants will be required to answer certain questions for export control purposes. Employer may choose not to apply for a license for such individuals whose access to export-controlled technology or software source code may require authorization and may decline to proceed with an applicant on that basis alone.
