Relief Supervisor, Thomaston, Georgia When you join our team as a Relief Supervisor , you will be coming into a developmental leadership role designed for individuals who are interested in building a long-term career in sawmill operations and leadership. Reporting to the Production Manager, the successful candidate will serve as a utility leader, providing support and shift coverage across multiple departments and operating areas within the mill. This position offers hands-on exposure to all various aspects of the operations including the sawmill, planer, kilns, quality control, maintenance, and safety, while developing the leadership, technical, and operational skills required for future supervisory opportunities. The Relief Supervisor will work a variety of shifts and departments as business needs require, gaining valuable experience leading teams, supporting operational performance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. Support production, maintenance, quality, and operational teams in meeting safety, production, recovery, and quality targets. Build working knowledge of all major manufacturing processes, equipment, and workflows throughout the sawmill and planer operations. Assist with employee training, coaching, and development. Develop an understanding of scheduling, workforce planning, and shift operations. Partner with operational leaders to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities. Participate in special projects and operational initiatives that support mill performance.
Gain experience in:
Sawmill operations (primary and secondary breakdown) Trimmer, sorter, and stacker operations Planer mill operations Maintenance planning and execution Quality control and optimization Boilers and kilns Environmental, health, and safety programs Leadership and employee development What You Offer Post-secondary education in Forestry, Wood Products, Engineering Technology, Business, Operations Management, or a related field is preferred. Previous manufacturing, industrial, forestry, or wood products experience is considered an asset. Previous leadership experience, formal or informal, is considered an asset. Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and provide coverage across departments as required. Demonstrated interest in pursuing a long-term leadership career within Interfor. Strong interest in leadership and operational management. Desire to build a career in sawmill operations with progression into supervisory and management roles. Ability to adapt quickly and work effectively in different departments and on varying shifts. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Proven ability to lead by example and influence others positively. Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn. Strong organizational and time-management skills.
