The MRF Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations, facilities, equipment, and personnel, ensuring compliance with regulated standard operating procedures and health and safety programs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Responsible for the overall health and safety of the Metro Recycling Facility, programs, and staff, ensuring compliance with all safe work practices, policies and procedures, and always acting in a safe manner. Determines work priorities, monitors work practices, promotes a team environment, fosters responsibility and accountability to maximize operating efficiencies, maintains budget, and ensures environmental compliance. Effectively manages to improve performance and productivity by ensuring the highest standards of environmental safety and operational excellence are met. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes, and increase efficiencies while adhering to organizational systems and facility standard work procedures. Oversees completion of properly sorted recyclables and related activities yielding a quality-controlled product. Builds relationships with mills and brokers and manages bid process to secure contracts and optimal pricing for recycling commodities. Implement policies and procedures for regular maintenance of all equipment to ensure safe and operational conditions. Develop equipment replacement schedule, write specifications, and make purchasing recommendations. Coordinates the logistics of shipping and selling recyclable materials. Assists in hiring, onboarding, and training; schedules staff to meet operational needs. Directs the regular cleaning of equipment and building/site maintenance to create safe and efficient operations. Works in coordination with the EHS to provide all appropriate training, including all safety and emergency procedures. Supervises all activities, including receiving, recordkeeping, processing, and shipment to ensure compliance of local, state, and federal regulations. Assist in the preparation and adherence to the budget and capital expenditure planning associated with the MRF and associated programs and services. Assists with special projects management and oversight as needed. Develops relationships with external organizations to ensure organization mission of No Waste Resources is met. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) Bachelor's degree (BA) from four-year college or university 3-5 years progressive management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid drivers' license Preferred Education & Experience Recycling, solid waste or environmental experience. Experience managing facilities, specially manufacturing or industrial operations. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers; handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, pushing and pulling of objects weighing up to 600 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Frequently stands, walks, or drives for extended periods of time. Work Environment This job is frequently required to perform work outdoors year-round with exposures to weather conditions prevalent at the time. This role will routinely be exposed to vibration and loud background noise and will frequently be exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; work in high, precarious places; risk of electric shock; and extreme heat (non-weather), Occasional non-regular work hours, which may include nights and weekends.
