Operations Manager Community Food Basket - Idaho Falls Position Summary The Operations Manager provides strategic leadership and oversight of Community Food Basket's daily operations, ensuring efficient food distribution, inventory management, logistics, facilities, and program support. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining operational systems that allow the organization to effectively serve individuals and families experiencing food insecurity while supporting future growth. The Operations Manager supervises operational staff and volunteers, manages warehouse and distribution functions, ensures compliance with food safety standards, and works collaboratively with leadership to achieve organizational goals. Key Responsibilities Operations Leadership & Management
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the, warehouse, distribution center, and related programs
- Develop, implement, and improve operational systems, policies, and procedures
- Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities for increased efficiency and effectiveness
- Ensure organizational resources are utilized responsibly and strategically
- Support long-term planning and implementation of operational goals Warehouse, Inventory & Logistics Management Oversee the receipt, storage, inventory control, and distribution of food and supplies Maintain accurate inventory records and reporting systems Ensure proper food storage, rotation, and handling procedures, including temperature-sensitive items Coordinate food sourcing logistics with donors, suppliers, and community partners Manage warehouse organization and space utilization to maximize efficiency Ensure inventory is sufficient to support program and client needs Food Distribution & Program Support Ensure efficient, equitable, and client-centered food distribution processes Oversee movement of food from receiving and storage through distribution channels Support mobile pantry operations, community distributions, and partner agency programs as applicable Work collaboratively with program staff to meet client and community needs Monitor service delivery and recommend improvements to enhance client experience Staff & Volunteer Leadership Supervise, support, and develop operational staff Assist with recruitment, onboarding, training, and evaluation of team members Foster a positive, mission-driven workplace culture focused on teamwork and accountability Provide leadership and problem-solving support during daily operations Compliance, Food Safety & Risk Management Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal food safety regulations Develop and maintain food safety, sanitation, and warehouse safety procedures Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance and quality standards Maintain a safe working environment for staff, volunteers, and clients Address operational risks and safety concerns proactively Data Management & Reporting Track and analyze operational metrics, including inventory levels, pounds distributed, and program outcomes Prepare reports for leadership, board members, grant funders, and strategic planning efforts Utilize data to improve efficiency, forecasting, and decision-making Maintain accurate records related to inventory, compliance, and operational activities Budget & Resource Management Assist in the development and management of operational budgets Monitor operational expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities Ensure responsible stewardship of equipment, vehicles, facilities, and organizational assets Participate in planning for capital improvements, equipment purchases, and operational growth Community Partnerships & Organizational Collaboration Build and maintain relationships with food donors, suppliers, community partners, and agencies Represent Community Food Basket at community meetings and partner events as needed Support efforts to increase awareness of Community Food Basket's mission and impact Continuous Improvement & Innovation Evaluate operational systems and recommend process improvements Research and implement best practices in food banking, distribution, logistics, and inventory management Support the organization's growth through innovation, strategic planning, and operational excellence Identify opportunities to improve client service, volunteer utilization, and resource management Qualifications Required Operations Management, Logistics, Nonprofit Management, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered Minimum of 3 years of experience in operations, logistics, warehouse management, or related leadership roles Experience supervising staff and coordinating volunteers Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database or inventory management systems Preferred Experience in a nonprofit, food bank, warehouse, or community service setting Knowledge of food safety regulations and inventory management best practices Experience managing facilities, fleet operations, or large-scale distribution programs Familiarity with continuous improvement processes and operational planning Personal Attributes Passion for Community Food Basket's mission and commitment to food security Strong leadership presence and ability to motivate others Strategic thinker with a hands-on, solutions-oriented approach High level of integrity, accountability, and professionalism Excellent communication and relationship-building skills Adaptable and comfortable working in a growing organization Work Environment & Schedule Primarily on-site at Community Food Basket facilities Regular warehouse and distribution center environment Active role requiring standing, walking, lifting, and moving inventory Occasional evening and weekend work for special events, distributions, or operational needs Occasional local travel to partner agencies, donor locations, and community meetings

$40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
