Job Description

Summary:
The On-Site Operations Supervisor leads the Rivian dispatch team and is accountable for safe, efficient, and consistent transportation operations. This role provides daily direction, coaching, and performance oversight to dispatchers; coordinates driver, equipment, and load priorities; monitors key performance indicators (KPIs); and partners with Rivian and internal leadership to resolve service issues. The supervisor ensures dispatch coverage, system accuracy, timely communication, and effective shift-to-shift execution while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, urgency, and continuous improvement. This is an on-site leadership position in an active transportation and yard environment. The employee must be able to remain at a workstation for extended periods, use a computer and communication equipment, and communicate clearly in an environment with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities. The role also requires regular interaction with dispatchers, drivers, customers, and site partners, as well as periodic movement through the facility or yard to verify conditions, support employees, and address operational issues while following all site safety requirements.
Primary Job Duties:
Provide daily leadership, work direction, coaching, and support to all on-site dispatchers across assigned shifts. Plan dispatcher staffing and coverage, coordinate breaks and shift handoffs, and respond to call-offs or changes in business demand. Set clear expectations for load assignment, communication, system updates, customer service, and escalation procedures. Monitor the load board and overall dispatch activity to ensure hot, expedited, and time-sensitive requests receive immediate attention and appropriate resources. Review dispatcher decisions and rebalance drivers, equipment, and assignments when service, productivity, or network conditions require intervention. Monitor operational KPIs, service performance, equipment utilization, and data accuracy; identify gaps and implement timely corrective actions. Conduct routine coaching, document performance discussions, recognize strong performance, and address attendance, conduct, or performance concerns in partnership with management and Human Resources. Train and onboard new dispatchers on site procedures, systems, customer requirements, safety expectations, and communication standards. Audit the Yard Management System (YMS), and operational trackers for complete, accurate, and timely information. Ensure tracking of out-of-service or restricted equipment is clearly communicated and routed to the necessary shop/vendor for timely repairs. Serve as the primary on-site escalation point for dispatchers, yard personnel, maintenance, internal leadership, and Rivian contacts. Investigate service failures, delays, missed shipments, communication breakdowns, and other operational issues; document root causes and follow-up actions. Lead shift-start meetings and ensure complete, actionable handoffs between shifts, including open loads, hot requests, staffing issues, equipment restrictions, and customer concerns. Partner with the Operations Manager to improve standard work, dispatcher productivity, service reliability, and customer satisfaction. Enforce all company and site safety, security, attendance, communication, and operating procedures, and promptly escalate significant incidents.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Two or more years of experience in dispatch, transportation, logistics, yard operations, or a related operational environment. Demonstrated ability to lead employees, coordinate work, provide coaching, and hold team members accountable to established expectations. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with employees, drivers, customers, and leadership. Ability to prioritize competing demands, make timely decisions, and remain composed in a fast-paced, continuously changing environment. Proficiency with standard computer applications and the ability to learn transportation, dispatch, and yard-management systems. Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and commitment to accurate records and consistent process execution. Dependable attendance and schedule flexibility are required. Work schedules are subject to change based on business needs and operational demands, including overtime, weekends, holidays, or alternate shifts when required. Previous supervisory or lead experience in transportation, logistics, dispatch, manufacturing support, or yard operations. Experience using a Transportation Management System (TMS), Yard Management System (YMS), electronic load board, or similar operational software. Experience managing staffing coverage, employee training, performance coaching, attendance, and corrective-action processes. Experience analyzing KPIs, service failures, equipment utilization, and operational trends to improve performance. Experience supporting automotive, manufacturing, just-in-time, or high-volume customer operations; familiarity with Rivian site requirements is a plus.
