Job Description

As the Field Specialist Lead, you will be the senior technical authority, guiding and supporting field installation, testing, and maintenance. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring OTECH's field operations run smoothly and effectively. This role involves close collaboration with the Production Manager, providing daily oversight and guidance to field specialists. Based in Hanover, MD, the position offers an exciting opportunity to travel and contribute to international projects, with up to 20% travel expected annually.
REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, management, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity within field services, production, or technical operations. Strong technical background in fabrication, assembly, installation, and testing of complex electro ‑ mechanical systems. Professional understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and related disciplines. Practical experience with test methods, troubleshooting, and modification of standard test procedures or equipment. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation, including documenting redlines. Excellent written, oral, and presentation communication skills. Strong interpersonal, time ‑ management, decision ‑ making, and conflict ‑ resolution abilities. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines. Comfortable communicating across all levels of the organization. Active Top Secret security clearance.

Experience with construction, installation, testing, or maintenance of undersea systems or related equipment. The Salary range for this position is $109,800 - $164,600. Duties and Responsibilities Lead and mentor Field Specialists in the execution of fabrication, assembly, installation, testing, and troubleshooting of electro ‑ mechanical systems, including hydraulics, propulsion, manipulators, fiber optics, navigation, and subsea environmental sensing equipment. Support the Production Manager by coordinating daily tasking, monitoring workload distribution, and ensuring field personnel are properly assigned to meet production and project requirements. Review engineering drawings, electrical and mechanical schematics, and technical documentation to ensure accurate execution and proper documentation of redlines. Provide technical guidance and hands ‑ on support during field deployments, system installations, and acceptance testing. Ensure all field activities are performed safely and in compliance with OTECH procedures, contract requirements, and site regulations. Maintain visibility of field resources, skillsets, and availability to support efficient dispatching of specialized personnel to projects. Assist with onboarding, training, and skill development of Field Specialists to ensure technical proficiency and readiness. Serve as a primary point of contact for resolving technical issues encountered during field operations, escalating to Engineering or Quality as needed. Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process gaps, recommending improvements, and contributing to updated work instructions or test procedures. Provide professional internal and external customer support, ensuring clear communication and timely resolution of field ‑ related concerns. Supervisory Responsibilities This position provides direct supervisory oversight, daily leadership, and technical guidance for a team of 5-12 Field Specialists, coordinating assignments, monitoring performance, and supporting personnel development in partnership with the Production Manager. Reporting Relationships The Field Specialist Lead reports directly to the Production Manager and works closely with Engineering, Quality, Programs, and other operational teams.
