Job Summary The Operations Manager is responsible for the overall operational performance of the installation and service facility. This role oversees lift installations (body + aerial device integration, testing, final quality validation) and service operations (repairs, refurbishments, warranty work), ensuring safety, quality, delivery, cost control, and customer satisfaction. The goal is to lead the operation and own day-to-day performance for aftermarket service and new unit installation. The facility is currently non-operational-this leader will build the team, set the operating rhythm, and launch a high-performing site. The position drives operational efficiency, workforce productivity, lean implementation, and alignment with North American manufacturing standards while supporting commercial commitments and service-level agreements. What You ll Do Restart the site: Stand up the operation, define workflows, implement standard work, and establish KPIs.Build the team:
Hire, onboard, train, and develop the full workforce (service techs/installers/leads/support).Run the business:
Own safety, quality, delivery/turnaround time, productivity, and cost.Lead service execution:
Manage scheduling, work orders, parts coordination, job documentation, and customer communication.Lead new unit installs:
Plan and execute installs to standard-on time, first time-right.Drive improvement:
Use structured problem solving and lean fundamentals (5S, visual management, root cause). Detailed Core Responsibilities 1. Operational Leadership & Daily Execution Lead all day-to-day installation and service operations. Ensure safe work practices and compliance with OSHA and internal safety standards. Monitor production schedules and service throughput. Drive on-time completion of installations and service jobs. Manage shop floor performance KPIs (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Productivity). 2. Lift Installation Oversight Oversee installation of aerial devices onto prepared chassis (no full chassis mounting responsibility). Ensure hydraulic, electrical, structural, and control systems are installed per engineering specifications. Maintain installation quality standards and final inspection processes. Coordinate with Engineering for technical updates and change management. Ensure compliance with ANSI and other applicable regulations. 3. Service & Aftermarket Operations Lead service technicians performing warranty, repair, refurbishment, and retrofit work. Ensure rapid turnaround times and high first time-fix rates. Monitor warranty claims and root cause trends. Maintain parts availability and service scheduling efficiency. Support dealer and customer technical escalations. 4. Workforce Management & Development Supervise production leads, service supervisors, and shop personnel. Manage staffing levels based on workload demand. Conduct performance reviews and coaching. Develop cross-training programs between installation and service teams. Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. 5. Planning & Coordination Collaborate with Planning to align installation schedules with parts availability. Balance installation backlog and service demand. Participate in weekly production planning reviews. Provide capacity forecasts to NA Manufacturing leadership. 6. Quality & Continuous Improvement Drive lean initiatives Reduce rework, scrap, and warranty costs. Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for installation or service defects. Implement process improvements to increase efficiency and safety. 7. Financial & Operational Control Manage facility operating budget. Monitor labor efficiency and overtime. Control consumables and operational expenses. Identify cost reduction opportunities without compromising quality. 8. Reporting & Executive Alignment Report KPIs and performance metrics to NA VP of Manufacturing. Participate in regional operations reviews. Escalate operational risks or capacity constraints. Support strategic initiatives and capacity expansion projects. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) TRIR - Recordable Incident Rate (Safety) On-Time Delivery % First-Time Quality Rate Warranty Cost per Unit Labor Efficiency % Revenue Throughput (Installations + Service) Factory Related Customer Complaints What You Bring 7+ years of operations/service leadership experience (industrial, equipment, manufacturing/service environment). Proven track record building teams and improving safety/quality/delivery. Strong execution mindset-comfortable in a hands-on, fast-paced start-up setting. Solid grasp of scheduling/work orders, labor planning, and operational KPIs. ERP/work order system proficiency; strong communication and leadership skills. Bachelor s degree in engineering, Manufacturing, or related field (preferred). 5-10+ years experience in heavy equipment, truck equipment, or manufacturing operations. Strong knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems. Lean manufacturing experience. Strong leadership and problem-solving skills. Preferred Experience with mobile equipment, upfitting, hydraulics/electrical integration, or heavy equipment service. Lean/Six Sigma exposure; warranty/service recovery experience.
