Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dependable, organized, and hands-on On-Site Operations Manager to oversee daily yard and transportation operations. This position will directly manage a team of approximately 10-15 employees responsible for trailer tracking, yard inventory, equipment inspections, driver coordination, and operational reporting. The On-Site Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring employees perform their assigned duties accurately, safely, and efficiently while maintaining strong communication with drivers, facility personnel, and company leadership. This is a hands-on leadership position. The successful candidate must maintain a visible presence throughout the operation, regularly inspect the yard, verify the accuracy of employee work and reports, address operational issues as they occur, and hold employees accountable for performance, attendance, and safety expectations. Key Responsibilities Team Leadership & Supervision
  • Directly supervise approximately 10-15 on-site employees.
  • Assign daily responsibilities and ensure adequate staffing and coverage.
  • Conduct shift meetings and communicate priorities, expectations, safety concerns, and operational changes.
  • Monitor employee performance and ensure assigned responsibilities are completed accurately and on time.
  • Coach, train, and develop employees on proper procedures and operational expectations.
  • Address attendance, punctuality, performance, and conduct issues promptly.
  • Document employee performance concerns and escalate disciplinary matters when appropriate.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new employees.
  • Promote accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and effective communication. Yard & Trailer Operations
  • Oversee the tracking of trailers entering, leaving, and moving throughout the facility.
  • Ensure accurate trailer inventories and routine yard checks are completed.
  • Verify trailer locations, dock assignments, trip numbers, load status, and other required operational information.
  • Coordinate with drivers and facility personnel regarding trailer assignments, availability, and movement.
  • Ensure employees accurately document trailer arrivals, departures, and yard movements.
  • Identify and resolve trailer shortages, misplaced equipment, inventory discrepancies, and other operational issues.
  • Ensure visual equipment inspections are completed and damaged, unsafe, or out-of-service equipment is immediately identified and reported.
  • Regularly walk and inspect the yard to verify operational conditions and employee performance. Reporting & Operational Accountability
  • Review employee reports and operational records for completeness and accuracy.
  • Ensure required shift and operational reports are completed and submitted on time.
  • Provide management with accurate updates regarding trailer inventory, equipment status, staffing, operational concerns, and unresolved issues.
  • Investigate discrepancies and ensure appropriate follow-up is completed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of operational and employee-related issues.
  • Identify recurring operational problems and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure important information is properly communicated between shifts and outstanding issues receive appropriate follow-up. Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure employees follow all company, customer, and facility safety procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and organized working environment.
  • Immediately address unsafe behaviors or conditions.
  • Ensure damaged or out-of-service equipment is properly identified, documented, and communicated.
  • Conduct routine observations to ensure employees are following established procedures.
  • Escalate significant safety, equipment, staffing, or operational concerns to management. Qualifications
  • Previous supervisory or management experience required, preferably in transportation, trucking, logistics, warehousing, yard operations, or a similar environment.
  • Experience managing a team in a fast-paced operational environment strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to establish expectations and hold employees accountable.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make operational decisions with limited supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfortable communicating with drivers, employees, facility personnel, and company management.
  • Basic computer, email, reporting, and data-entry skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to changing operational needs.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to regularly walk the trailer yard and remain active throughout the shift.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential.
What We're Looking For We are looking for a manager who takes ownership of the entire on-site operation, not someone who simply supervises employees from an office. The ideal candidate is visible, engaged, organized, and comfortable holding employees accountable. This individual should know what is happening throughout the operation, recognize and address problems quickly, communicate concerns effectively, and ensure employees consistently follow established procedures. The right candidate will be able to balance people management, operational oversight, safety, customer service, trailer accountability, and accurate reporting while keeping a busy transportation operation running efficiently. If you have leadership experience in transportation, trucking, logistics, warehousing, dispatch, fleet, or yard operations and are ready to take ownership of an on-site operation, we encourage you to apply.
